I cleaned my GXP really thoroughly in preparation for some car shows and I spent 4.5 hours waxing it. I took the license plates off to wash and wax behind them. What do you think of the results?

Lookin good I would keep the front plate off if that were mine. 4.5 Hours for a wax job? Did you do more than wax? What percent tint do you have?

I'm a really thorough person, and I don't use a buffer, so it takes a long time. I also used some polish stuff on the all the lights to keep them clear, which took a bit of time as well. Using Q-tips to get the wax out of the crevices took awhile too...

Not sure about the tint. The first owner of the car did it. It's a little too dark at night in areas without street lamps.

Waxing takes me about that long too, if I do a intense all out job. All by hand is a pain. :D

Car is beautiful man!

Yeah, it's illegal to not have a front plate. Many people take their plate off anyway, but it's really not worth the hassle of getting an additional ticket if you get stopped for something else OR getting stopped because of it. I really don't need the expense of a ticket, so it doesn't bother me.

Thanks for the compliments guys :)

LOL that is soooooo unrelated. You're definitely jacking the thread!

I was at Target, and they had some metal chrome ones. They weighed like 3 pounds! Wouldn't catch me putting one of those on a car!

Yeah, I never use a buffer...just elbow grease. Try using a tooth brush instead of a Q-tip. Works well and doesn't scratch either (soft or medium bristles).

The GXP is look'n real good btw!

instead of using a toothbrush which can micro scratch the paint just tape it off with painters tape and you wont have to worry about getting the wax out of those spots.

I'm changing something tonight, which is why I did such a thorough photoshoot.

I guess I can post the new pics in this topic once it's done.

-- Wed Apr 28, 2010 10:44 am --

I designed and ordered some vinyl from a friend for my GXP's windshield. It looks awesomeeeeeee. I applied it last night with help from my mom.

I designed it using the same font as what is used for the word GRAND PRIX on my trunk lid. My friend sent me a whole bunch of different dark gray samples so I could select one that would compliment my unusual paint color. I wanted something that wouldn't detract from the good looks of the car and wouldn't look like an ad-mobile. Something that could be seen at a car show, but not really seen by people tailgating me while driving. Something that would disappear at night when I park the car at a club or anywhere else. Charcoal Metallic ended up complimenting my car perfectly. It's the sample on the very bottom. The center piece of paper is a piece of photo paper with my car's touch up paint applied so I could see what it looked like in different sources of light.

Here's how it came in the mail:

And here it is applied. I took my friend's advice and after following his instructions, I laid the banners on the car and marked with masking tape where they would be applied so no mistakes would be made when the banners were peeled off. I used the flash in some of these pics. The pics aren't very good, so I'm going to take some in the sunlight this weekend at a car show.

Here's some close ups. It took my mom and me about 2 hours total to apply them. That included the cutting, the thorough washing process of the windshield, and then application to perfection.

My friend also sent me some of my logos that might look cool applied to my headrests. Think I should do it? My windows are so tinted, I don't think they'd be visible.

I think that logo looks good on the windshield. It's suttle and matches good from what I see. The headrests would look sweet with those words on it if you could get it to stay on there. It's a vinyl right? I figure it'd get rubbed/tore off pretty easily

It's pretty tough and high quality vinyl. It's supposed to last 7 to 10 years in direct sunlight without damage.

I know people who have applied it to their seats without issue for 2 to 3 years. Not sure if it is worth wasting my time though. I'll have to wait and see if I get inspired to use it elsewhere.
