Hello All,

I have a 2004 grand prix Gt that has the 3800 series III L32 motor in it. Has anyone pulled their motor and converted to V8 GXP? Is it possible?
I found this block on Morads ebay store and I would love to build a monster because my grand prix is just sitting in the garage with a car cover over it collecting dust.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS4-Shor ... ccessories

Could someone please direct me to some instructions or give me a little info on this. Thanks in advance

IIRC, there may be a space issue. I believe the GXP is a little wider up front, but I could be wrong. There's some issue with the fenders.
BTW, an L32 is a GTP engine not a GT. The GT has an L26.

Has any one ever done a 5.3 swap in a base or GT GP? is it possible for a reasonable price?

The GXP's entire subframe is different from the GT/GTP's. It is not simply a V8 stuffed into a V6 GP's chassis--it's a whole new front end. From the firewall forward, only the hood and headlights are the same as the V6 models.

It's not even worth the effort to switch to the V8. Just do a top swap (add a supercharger) and you'll be making the same amount of power has the V8. The LS4 is a really odd engine and they didn't come out with many aftermarket parts like the 3800 v6 the GT and GTP have.

im guessin you are talking about modding after the swap to get to the same hp numbers as the GXP since a blown GP has 260 stock and the GXP is 303 stock.

There's a guy on our local forums who recently did this swap, 07 GXP -> 01 GTP Coupe, he swapped EVERYTHING from the GXP into the coupe (seats, dash, console, steering column, gas tank,...) and he now has the car running (http://www.oqcgp.net/phpbb3/viewtopic.p ... ap#p525495)....talk about a sleeper hehehe

So my guess is GXP -> 04 GT should probably be even easier...

here is how to do a cheap GT to GXP swap

1.open hood
2.frown
3.sell gt
4.??????
5.buy gxp.

by the time your done with the swap it would be cheaper to find a cheap GXP...and add the gt front end (bumpers and fender) this way you get a better interior etc

Hey, I had a GTP with the 3.4 pulley. I found it quick but this engine feels so much better. I disagree that he should just thow a supercharger on and would have the same power. You don't get the same top end power and I for one enjoy not losing 50hp if the weather gets hot. This 5.3L is very smooth while it delivers power whereas my GTP felt and sounded like it was going to explode if I layed into it.

Lets also not forget the better braking and suspension that comes with a GXP. I would go for the trade in but the G8 GT would be a better choice.

I hang around car people at car shows and in my auto tech class all the time i get asked why i dont just drop in a 305" well can some one tell me why i dont? They all say since its gm the engine mounts should be interchangeable and what not.

people always doubt the supercharged 3800. ive beat 2 gxp's so far and there excuse was because they still had stock tires on there car while I had cooper cs4's (idk if those tires are even good) lmao but then I point out my car has over 100k more. I really did think with the 5.3 that they would be faster but they really werent . . .

Even if someone were to successfully drop an LS4 into a GP GT's engine bay, you would still have to deal with all the computer programming such as that displacement-on-demand, etc.
