What all do we have to do to disable the DOD in our cars? How many mpg do we lose when we disable it? Do we have to mess with anythig in the engine?

It can be done with a handheld tuner/ECM mail in tune (Overkill, Trifecta, Vector)/or a buddy that has HPtuner app. I do mostly city and my MPG's are the same. When i went on the hwy i lost about 2mpg, but I have not burnt an ounce of oil since then. before that I went through 1qt every 2kmi.

Holy crap. A quart every 2000 miles? They must have made some improvements by 2008, because I go 5000 miles and it's still full. Also, if I drive complete highway at around 70 mph, I'm getting right around 30 mpg. I bet I'd loose 5 mpg if I disabled the DOD. I just drove from Flint, MI to Pittsburgh, PA this morning and got 29.8 mpg and I got stuck in a little traffic for about 20 minutes.

thanks. i've been wanting to get rid of it for a while. i have been reserching on how this will be affecting my car. so far i am leanig toward it but the price for a tuner is through the roof. i wouldn't pay 300+ bucks.

You don't need a tuner to get it tuned. Just contact Will at Overkill (200 bucks) or find someone with HPT or some other tuner and pay the 100 bucks or whatever it is to get credits to unlock the GXP PCM's.

Yep, it would vary on how much the car was in DOD mode. Usually doesn't show up as an issue until about 30-35kmi. By then the rings are getting gunked up and allowing more oil to pass through and burn. I ran combustion cleaner through the engine after it was off and changed the plugs too, and a fresh Penz. Ultra oil change and so far so good.

If I had a DoD car, I'd just goose the throttle every once and while when cruising to get all the cylinders to fire for a short time at least to burn off the crap and moisture in the cylinder and keep up compression up enough to keep the rings seated.

Well, I'm quite a ways past that. I have 73,000 miles on the beast already. So hopefully I don't run into that problem.

There's supposedly a fix for the oil consumption issue, a new windage tray that prevents the DoD relief valve from blowing oil on the back 2 cylinders. I'm guessing the DoD creates a vacuum in one of the back cylinders that sucks oil up, that's why deleting DoD helps with the oil consumption.

Its available for all engines included in the TSB but the LS4. The part wont fit due to the oil pan thats different on the LS4. Supposedly the part will be out "soon"
