Hey,

I was hoping someone could help me out before I buy rims.

I'm looking at putting some aftermarket wheels on my GXP.......I don't know how to handle the tire pressure monitoring system.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do the GXP's have monitors in the valve stems? What do I hae to do so I don't keep getting the "check tire pressure" warning on the DIC?

Thanks

Come on!!

Doesn't anyone have aftermarket wheels on their GXP that can chime in?

Can I just swap my rims, reset my pressure monitor system through the DIC and call it a day?

I am pretty sure the tire pressure system is just a leveling monitoring system. If it noticed a quick "un-even-ness" of the car that lasts for a bit, it goes off....

NOPE ^ ^

There are actual sensors on the valve stems. That's why they can tell you the exact pressure in the tire at any time. I have heard of people bypassing the system by disabling that code in the computer of the car, but honestly, I don't know how. Sorry.

Eh, must be a GXP thing. My GTP has the low tire pressure monitor thing, but there's no sensor.

You can have tire pressure sensors installed on your new rims, otherwise the DIC will always warn of problems with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System every time you start the car. (Which is what I dealt with all winter when I swapped my winter rims without the sensors)

I think Tire Rack was offering to mount/install them on the rims for an additional $50 per tire? Might be worthwhile if you'll be running with the rims for a while.

If I remember correctlly, you will also have to tell the computer which sensor is on which location of the car as well. Otherwise, like if you rotate your tires, your car may say the LF is low, but it is actually your RR etc. etc.

'07+ Grand Prix's have the wheel sensor type of TPMS.

I got a set of aftermarket rims and winter tires from Tirerack; and I did get the tire sensors for approx $50 ea. So whenever the tires are switched over -- you do have to re-match them to the car. It's relatively easy to do and you only have 2 minutes. Instructions are in the owners manual.

One hint from my experience is to move the removed tires away from the car before doing the matching; having them nearby adds more radio signals to possibly confuse the car and sometimes the car takes more time before acknowleging the tire you're trying to match.
