I'm thinking of giving my car to my daughter and getting a GXP. I was just wondering if everyone loves there car as much as I do my GT2. The car has been great for me (123,000 miles) and would like to have more of the same with the GXP if I get one. I test drove a 2007 yesterday and really liked the power.

Some questions....(want to know if some of my parts will fit the GXP)

1) How is the engine? As good as the 3800 Series III for reliability?
2) Are the side braces the same as on my 2004?
3) Is the motor mount the same?
4) Will the K&N from my car fit this 5.3L?
5) Is the STB the same?
6) Any chance the alternator is the same?
7) How are the transmissions?

The cars I've been looking at have between 20,000 miles and 30,000 miles. And they are either a 2006 or 2007. Price ranges from $13,900 to $16,900. I also looked at a 2008 model, but they wanted $18,900 for that one with 26,000 miles. They all seem to have about the same options.

1) Is there any difference between the year models where one is better they the other.
2) Any options that are a "must have"?

Thanks in advance for the info. It will really help me with my decision.

1) The LS4 is as rock solid as they come. Some are putting down 500whp with no internal mods, and I can only think of one engine failure of the 3 forums I go to.
2) The two side braces are the same
3) Its the same but only one
4) Wont fit
5) Yes but it needs to be modified to clear the alternator (ask Flip)
6) Nope
7) 'bout the same as the rest of the GP's hit or miss. A few have over 100k and some have has failures at 20k.

Options are pretty much the same. Only real difference is the 06's and early 07's had Alcoa rims and after that were the GM ones. Hope that helps Tony.

Love the car .... no engine problems but did have a wheel bearing goin out on the drivers side that is covered under the powertrain warrenty, and had it replaced. There is only two radios that came with the GXP if im correct first was a plain CD player monsoon and the other was a navi radio. Oh and my 07 came with the GM rims...

the only year i would try to avoid is the 05 just because there seems to be more people with problems with that year of car....my 08 has had no major problems but its only got 12,500 miles on the clock.....JC05GXP has all the answers lol......only thing is the aftermarket for the LS4 is limited compared to the other GP's.

Rare items. Would be a cloth, sunroof delete car, with nav. 05-06-and early 07 have alcoa aluminum wheels. Dont remember what the split was for slight differnece with trim.

That's usually the rule of thumb I follow "stay away from the first year of production"... It's the next year they get the kinks sorted haha

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had to drive 180 miles to Ohio to get one with the nav system. Ended up getting a 2008 with 20,100 miles on it. Has all options. The stock exhaust on these sounds really good.

Here are a couple of quick pics I took with the cell phone and a couple of the dealer photos. Love driving this car!!! What is this color called? Burgandy, maroon?

The town I drove to in Ohio was Ridgeville. Not far from the I80/I90 split.

My plans at first are to take some of the parts off the 04 and put them on this car. I have the aluminum side supports and engine supports that will fit this car too. Also will be taking my tinted reverse light off. Need to remove the front license plate bracket and put plugs in the holes. We don't need front plates in Michigan. I will probably do a K&N and then have Flip do me a STB and brake light. Also want to put some nice grilles on and side vents to match. Anyone know a good place to find them? And would love to put on a Corsa exhaust. But that is $1,300, so that will have to wait a bit. If anyone has any good ideas, feel free to speak.

Thanks guys!

Nice GXP. I have heard the magnaflow exhaust on these cars and I like it. Plus the magnaflow is affordable. Other than that you can get a CAI.

Red comes in 2 shades. Red was a base option. Ruby metalic was a $250.00 option. I tried to find one in Ruby with the tan interior, then wanted one in Blue with tan. Thoes were impossible to find unless I wanted to drive to Florida to get it. I finaly went with Black/Black. Welcome to the GXP club. Get some STBs. I just put mine on yesterday and I love they way it feels now.

Remove the resonator/s, and the exhaust will really be nice, especially at startup, and idle. Not sure about the power, but for well under $100...it would be worth it.

This is true. That is all I did, and it makes the car sound much better. Plus with my custom FWI, I have a decently fast sport sedan that sounds good too.
