thanks guys, ok, here is the process and materials.

Gave it a good soap down and cleaning with dishwashing detergent and the hose, making sure to get all the nooks and crannys using a Q-tip.
Dried very well.
Hung it up from the open garage door using twine and the knobs on the back of it.
Used Krylon Fusion satin black and coated the whole thing with about 3 or 4 coats to cover completely.
Let dry.
Taped off everywhere except for the manny ports.
Hung it back up.
Used Krylon Fusion gloss red and coated it 5 or 6 times to it completely covered and even.
Let dry.
Then I used acrylic paint from Michael's crafts and painted the details with a small craft brush.

Just be sure to take your time and not overspray. The thinner the coats the better it will look.

Here is what a few other people have done. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-front ... cover.html

If there was a way to grind out, possibly sand out the "D.O.D." on both sides it would look a lot sweeter. Nice job othewise though!

thanks guys, and yeah, the DOD part sucks balls, that's why i didn't paint it lol, I would grind it out but there would be no way to make the finish look uniform because of the texture of the cover :( BOOOOOOOOO

You could, just use 5-6 coats of primer, wet-sand till its smooth, paint 5-6 coats, then clear 4-6 coats and polish it.

Im currently doing it right now on a supercharged cover I have... Im shaving off the lettering and making it completely smooth.

Not willing to put that much into it :) But you could, if you were doing the whole cover, a section of it would still look odd

Looks good, what color is your car? Is it red?

My only concern is that acrylic craft paint isn't high temperature resistant paint. It'll possibly crack and/or fade after a few months/years of use.

X2... I was wondering how well this would hold up as well.

Looks pretty badass though :)

The only part that is acrylic craft paint is is the lettering. If it doesn't hold up, I can just repaint that, not a biggie. BTW, my car is dark cherry metallic. It is a deep deep red metallic. I think the gloss red looks great, I will take a pic now that I've painted the diagonal braces and the radiator engine support with the new msp bushings and billet dogbone ;) Looks awesome.
