The last issue seems to have not returned for now. Being that the weather is warmer and I have the windows down in the afternoon I now hear what seems to be a mild metallic scraping sound at lower speeds when making right turns. The sound appears to come from the front driver's side wheel when turning right anywhere from 15-35 mph approx. When going straight at those same speeds then turning the wheel right a bit, the same sound happens then it's gone again when back straight (or left). I have about 34,900 miles on the car - last legs of the warranty. Several on the internet are saying wheel bearing. At these low miles has anyone had this happen or have any ideas ? Thanks.

Check your wheel hub IMMEDIATELY. I only had one bolt holding everything on and it was about to fall out.

I had that on mine a year or so ago. The metal clips that snap on to the caliper bracket were touching the rotor. Only heard the noise when i turned. I took them off bent the tabs back in and no noise. Hopefully its not what happened to JP, so check it asap.

Wheel bearing. I replaced one on my GP at 27000km. Sometimes you just get a bad bearing...

I've had the caliper pins seize up due to no grease on em. It kept the calipers from sliding so the pads would rub just enough to make a noise. (But this wasn't on a GP)

Me.............I would check the brake pads, if they are worn down to the squealers that's is what is makin' your noise.
Check it out: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-part ... brake4.htm

Wow,
I just made an appointment with the dealership to have this checked. It's still under warranty so hopefully whatever it is will be covered. The front brakes were just replaced a few months ago with ceramic ones and the rotors were replaced with original ones as well. If it is a wheel bearing or hub bolts I'm hoping it's covered. My appointment is Tuesday but I'm not going too far between now and then. The car is tight and straight still, with no pulling or anything. Regardless of this I still think the GXP is one solid machine. Thanks for all the help and I'll post more info when I take the car in.

I'm hoping that's all it is. This is my only car driven year round but never abused. Still looks and smells brand new.

I better get this checked out myself. Every single day when I back out of the garage, one or both of my wheels make a groan as a backup to the right. It's absolutely the only time it makes the noise.

That might be the ABS self check that your hearing. It does it every time the car is started and placed in gear.

Does it sound like (for lack of a better description...) a fart on an office chair?

If so, perhaps you're right.

Well here's the update,
I took the car to my appointment with the dealer today and of course, due to the rain during the day today, the scraping sound disappeared then came back just a little while ago after the weather dried up a bit. The service manager went with me and it would not duplicate the sound. It was drizzling/raining at the time. I'll have to take it back on a dry day is what he recommended. I agreed with him when he said it was best that his techs don't do any "exploratory surgery". It amazes me that they won't even check a freaking bolt for tightness unless it duplicates the sound/issue for them. I'm assuming this must be something very minor when it goes away with a little bit of moisture. Again it is a minor "metallic" scraping sound only on low speed right turns or veering right. And it only comes from the driver side front wheel. There is no droaning - strictly the scraping sound. I'm used to the ABS sound as I know about that one. At least I know a little moisture gets rid of it. I'm not sure if the sound started before or after I had my front rotors replaced with new one's (oem) along with ceramic pads a few months back. With the windows up you never hear it. I'm going to take it back to the dealer again soon and try and time it on a dry day.

That's what I'm going to have checked next since my front (ceramic) brakes and rotors are only a few months old and I don't drive all that much. I had to replace my front brakes for the first time at around your mileage. The tech. manager at the dealership had said that these cars like brakes. I didn't agree. 34,000 miles for brake replacement on a performance sedan like this seems normal. He said he noticed a "few" around. Maybe those "few" were not treated as well as ours. I'm at almost 36,000 and still on my original rears which are due for replacement. I'm really starting to hate dealerships.

I had this EXACT same thing. Turned out to be a wheel bearing. Left front play had some play, and the bearing would make sound when it loaded up on one side. aka: turning and putting pressure on that bearing. They fixed it and now it's silent.

Wow, I hope it wasn't expensive to fix. I may end up having to do the same thing - who knows right now. And not to change the subject but thank you for serving. I was stationed at Hill AFB Utah. Served from 86-92. Retired as an E-4 (Sgt. at the time). Go USAF !

Finally fixed the issue myself. Reached blindly behind the driver side front wheel and searched for a bit and felt a flat metal tab slightly against the rotor. Took a flat head screwdriver and bent the tab back just a little and that was it - sound gone. I'm not sure if this was a wear indicator but my pads are still good. The last place that replaced the front brakes and rotors could have bent something during installation. Thankfully, everything is quiet now. I wish I had took the time to do this earlier.

Was it by the lower ball joint? If so it was the heat shield for the ball joint. I had to move mine back also. They weren't touching yet, but were closer than they were.

Who replaced the breaks a few months ago? Everytime I've ever had a dealer do my breaks they somehow always manage to bend in one of the low pad squeler warning clip things because they are stupid lazy morons. I just got my gxp and they put new breaks on it before selling it to me and I had the same damn problem. Fixed it myself. I think they do it on purpose just to get you back into the shop.

I know I'm bad but I had speedy oil do it. I had been going to them for oil changes for a while. I have a different (better) garage that I take it to now that I have moved. I am almost positive it is the warning tab for the brakes. I think they had "tweaked" it a bit to get me back in like you said. I also got under the rear of the car and moved the backing plates slightly more out of the way. They were too close to the rotor for my comfort.
