Hello guys say this gem of an idea on another forum for the 97-03 w-bodys. I decided this woudl be a cheap simple one for our cars. So this is my attempt
The bend into the throttle body is a little tight. I was orginally gonna mount this in a different spot and had cut a lilttle to much off. If any of u copy this you should be able to make the bend smothing depending on how you cut it. I added two zip ties help keep it tight even though it didnt seem to need it. It is in there very well. Pushed it back behind a couple things and it looks nice i think. My total cost was $16. I already had a filter though. I ran a true flow 90202 air filter i had around. I looked up the cost on amazon and it was $25, SO for under $50 you could have what i think is a fairly good, mostally sealed cold air intake. Hope you guys like it. Also dont flame me for my temp mounting of the computers thats where im hung up at the moment gotta do some more playing around and buysome wire loose to cover the now exposed computer wiring :)
Plan on doing some header wrap on the crossover tommorw help keep temps low. And all i gotta do at the track is remove Drivers head light and ill have ram air. May upgrade to a aluminum pipe in the future

Parts List
1 True flow Air Fitler part# 90202--3 1/2 outlet
1 Flashing that allows 3"-4" pipe through it
1 3" coupling
1 Piece of 3" pipe atleast a foot long.
zip ties and i used the Aluminum tape to wrap the pipe.
Tools, 5/16 nut driver, 10mm and 13mm sockets and driver, Cutting tools- saw, untility knife or sheet metal snips, Torx bits to remove screw holding MAF to stock air box.

Hmm. I think you did a good job man. I may give this some good consideration. How does is sound/feel? Feel an increase in power?

SOUNDS great i gonna add a couple videos on youtube of the car. my name on youtube is panther427 just like on here. One vid will be rolling accel, one is 0-60,
My car doesnt have exhaust or anything but this intake and a tune. Seems to pull harder and on certain down shifts it really puts me back in my seat.
The biggest PAIN in the ass is mounting the computers. velcroed the TCM to the fender area. And velcroed and zip tied ECM to collant bottle. Also put some header wrap on today. PUT wire loom on exposed wires also today.

i can vouch for this, it sounds AWESOME. i did a similar setup only i went to the fenderwell, and used a K&N cone. I noticed a gain in top end, and you definitely hear it over the radio at WOT. it isn't annoying either, it sounds really good, and you only really hear it if you get on it which is nice.

Why yes it oiled. Same set up as K&N, special cleaner and oil for the filter. Its a heavy oil compared to what the cotton filters use. Keeps it from getting sucked into the MAF.
I would sujest it over any of the cotton filters. but thats just me.

I know all there is to know about airfilters, thanks.

Cleaning/re-oiling them sucks.

And foam filters are a million times better than cotton fiber filters.

Even the cheapest foam filter is better than any K&N

I got mine when i did a used car inspection and a ford f250. there was an intake on the truck with a spare filter in the cab. I adopted the spare filter.

I see you didn't cover the computer and components and I was wondering is that ok or do you need to cover it because of water getting in since the wires aren't really protected I just put an intake on mine and noticed this problem.

Well for the wires i went and bout some wire loom to cover them up. Looks nicer and wire loom is flame retardent. You dont want to completey enclose the ECM since it does put off heat. To me they put it in the air box to save space, air flow over the cooling fins, and help with the elements. Even so moisture would still get to the wire and computer from moisture in the air or driving in a rain storm ect. Personally im not too worried about it. Im probally gonna put the factory base plate of the air box back in since i think it is a better solution for mounting the computers than what i have done.
