I've got almost 37,000 miles on the beast, and my tires are screaming at me. Boy is it loud! Is that about the standard mileage for the 2008's stock tire? Of course, the fronts are much worse than the rears. Hate not being able to rotate, but can't afford both tires and rims. I'm thinking of going with the Yokohama AVID ENVigor. The reviews on this tire have been really good, and they sound like they are a good balance between performance, and winter driving. I can get them installed for $840 at a local shop. Haven't found a cheaper price for them anywhere else. Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these tires.

I had all 4 tires replaced with Kunho LX platinum's and they seem to be wearing well, but I only have about 5kmi on them. Hopefully they'll last longer than the GY and the Bridgestones did. They were about $800 installed.

I ended up going with the Yokohama AVID ENVigors. They are great! Nice and quiet, and they stick real nice. They work great in the rain, now the real test will be this winter. I've put about 1,000 miles on them, and I'm real happy.

Just after I bought my GXP with 26k on it, I happened to meet the original owners at a car show, and they said the only reason they traded it in for a Saab was because the tires were worn out.

LOL. I think that is pretty common on a sports car. I guess he'll only have the Saab for a little bit and then have to trade that in too.

Yeah, this was only a month or two after I purchased the car last year when I met them. They said they already missed the car because the Saab wasn't as comfortable, didn't have dual-climate controls, didn't have HUD, and didn't have the power of the GXP.

It was really nice meeting the birth parents of my car lol

Brandon and Tony, did you guys go with O.E. sizes? My tire guy says that I should be able to install 245/45R18 all around without new rims so that I can rotate them without any problems.

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE050As or whatever GM contracted Bridgestone to produce specifically for the GXP. Apparently they have an extremely rigid sidewall that reduces the torque steer.

I wouldn't go with equally sized tires. Number 1, the front wheels are 8 inches wide and the rears are 7 inches wide, so rotating them front to back is a dumb idea. Equally sized tires on different width wheels can look stupid (bulging on the sidewall or looking like they barely fit) and they can tend to lose air and need more frequent refilling.

Using non-directional tires that you can rotate left to right is a waste of time IMO as well. Non-directional tires are overall fairly pitiful tires as far as grip and handling are concerned. The cost of getting tires rotated can be saved and put towards just simply replacing old tires with new ones. And even if you don't race your car (I don't) I still think it's important to be able to drive in the rain without sliding around, which non-directional tires aren't particularly good for in my opinion. Tirerack.com has ratings for each set of tires, and while the OEM Potenzas don't rate the best, they didn't necessarily test them on a GXP. Personally, I say stick with the Potenzas if you can afford them, but that's just my opinion.

GM made the front wheels wider to help distribute how heavy the front end is. The weight balance on a GP GXP is something like 62/38 and it's a little bit worse on a regular GP I believe because the all-aluminum LS4 weighs less than the 3.8L V6.

If you put the skinny wheels from the rear on the front, and the wide ones on the rear (if they'd even fit in the wheel wells without hitting the suspension and everything else), you're not really doing any good service to how the car would drive. I'm not an engineer... I don't know what it would be like.

Directional tires are what most modern tires are. They are only meant to rotate in one direction to efficiently throw rain water, snow, dirt, etc. properly to maintain traction. You put them on backwards, and they aren't going to do that right. So you can't rotate directional tires left to right on a car. On a car with 4 equally sized wheels, you can rotate them front to back though.

In the 90s, it was really popular to put non-directional tires on cars. Both of our Camaros came with them. If you read reviews of those type of tires, they just don't stack up to the directional ones in any category.

I'm not a tire enthusiast or expert, so I can't say much more than that.

Since your car doesn't have GXP wheels, probably pretty good. If they make Potenza Pole Position tires for that size, I really like those on our Z28. It has 245/50-R16 Pole Positions on it and drives like a dream. The 40,000 mile warranty on them rules too!

I went with the OE sized tires. Didn't want to have to purchase new rims. I assumed the stock rims were different sizes.
