I dont remember where I saw it or who did it. But remember seeing a a pic of a GXP with the stock air box open and a K&N Cone or cylinder (dont remember exactly) filter in side the stock box. Any one here done it or seen it done? What size filter would fit in there? I an about to replace to stock 45* elbow (MAF to TB) with a smooth one. Then put a K&N drop in (33-2334) in and maybe open up the fresh air opening in the air box.

Don't waste your time with a 1000RR.. I've proven time and time again to my friends, that my 600 would whoop their 1000's on any canyon road... and have. I just sold my 2 weeks ago, and got $5,500 for it. I'm getting another one once the 2011 600RR's come out.

I had a FWI in my GTP... I liked the way it looked and the sound of the M90 was awesome, but after driving into standing water onetime and hydrolocking the engine.... at least 4 hours from home.... I do not think I will do that when I get a GXP... JMHO... Find a way to gut the airbox and get a cone in there maybe

2 problems with that...

1. Gutting your stock box isn't really going to do much. Have you guys seen how small the inlet for air is for the factory air box? It is very small. Your V8 needs to be able to breathe to get maximum performance.

2. Don't drive through standing water, especially if you have an open cone in the Fender well

The gutting of the Air box is to be able to get the cone to fit in there.

And sometimes you dont have a choice but to drive through standing water. Sometimes its and accident and sometimes down here in the south you get over 1" of rain coming down per hour so residential streets have alot of water (but I just drive really slow when its like that).

What I have decided to do is get a silicon 45* elbow, K&N Drop in, and cut a bigger hole for the air to enter the air box.

That is the biggest two things about the stock airbox. #1 is that the air inlet, behind the headlamp and through the fender, are very small, If a guy could open those up a bit, then then it shoud grab as much air as the K&N or others. The second thing, is like you had said before, gutting the airbox. Once theses two things are done, I would believe you should see some gains, but not sure exactly how much. The next most restrictive thing is that corrigated tubing that the air runs through to get to the TB.

Good luck, and post up some pic's when done.

I'll get some pics up for everyone... My Superchips programmer does the same as a G-tech, so I'll try ot figure that out to get some sort of numbers if I can. The car is at the body shop right now.

I didnt have too much of a choice since that was the only way to go at the time. It was down in Mobile, AL...and the street was named Water St..... :laughing5: Well, it did not dong on me about the filter until I hit the water, and by then it was too late. Like was said, sometimes in the south it is un-avoidable.

Ok I have cut the air box for more air flow, I'll get yall a pick of the opening now compaired to that little tube thing the air used to go through. The K&N drop in is in now and soon I'll be ordering the 45* elbow (like $20 with clamps).

This is a stealth look and cheaper than a CAI... Filter $45, Elbow w/ clamps $20, opening factory box FREE... So $65 compaired to $265 for a CAI. Thats $200 toward having my LS4 intake manifold ported ($300) (good for 30whp and 18wtq) or the Hogan 3" DP that uses the factory cat (which is a high flow cat) (DP with cat $285, with out $120+ welding at muffler shop)

I'm going for the stealth/stock look with some impressive power. But I think I'll get a delete for my Magnaflow resinator when i get the DP installed.
