Well after searching here and the internet and only finding limited information in regards to replacing the battery of the GXP I have choose to post the process. And clear a few things up.

The Install:

Battery: Optima Red Top (BCI Group Number 35, yes 35 fits great!)

Step 1)Remove battery terminals with a 10mm socket wrench. They are a little difficult to remove but rotating them side to side once loose will help. remove the ground first.

Step 2) Remove the small christmas tree clip that is on the underside of the brace. Also remove the fuse block cover.

Image

Step 3) Remove the brace. There are 3-13 mm bolts. Note that the one at the top of the shock absorbing tower will likely be rusted, so use care.

Image

Step 4) Now that the brace is removed there is much more room. Disconnect the positive lead at the top of the fuse box.

Image

Step 5) LOOSEN the four 7mm small bolts. Note that I said loosen, they do not remove. Also pry the small clip connectors around the fuse box perimeter in 4 locations.

Step 6) As you remove the upper part of the fuse box the harnesses will fall into the lower part. You will then need to pull these out of the way and hold them back. Also remove the two 7/16" bolts holding the lower fuse box to the shock absorbing tower.

Step 7) Everything is now removed and out of the way.

Step 8) Loosen the two 13mm bolts that are on the battery retaining bracket. Again loosen these enough to remove the battery.

You should now be able to get the battery out with relative ease. Be careful not to tip more than 45 degrees. Since you have everything removed I recommend cleaning the area with a moist rag.

To re-install repeat this procedure in reverse! Here is my new battery!

Enjoy!

I didnt remove the fuse box completely. I just unbolted it from the fender and kept it out of my way the best i could. Still PITA though.
