Been fairly quiet here lately. Hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving. Was just wondering if any GXP'ers on here have had any issues lately. So far, so good here. Running perfect - knock on wood.

Has been quiet, hasn't it? Knock on wood, mine's been running flawlessly. I truly love this car.

Thanksgiving went well, how was yours? Knock on wood, the GXP is running great. I'm planning on doing the brakes after winter as they were below 50% last time I looked. Other than that.....

Doing well here. I just did do the Ceramic upgrade last week. I LOVE the new pads. 1 week on the new ones, and absolutely no brake dust on the wheels yet. Stopping power is the same as from the factory.

Wish my view was as rosey. I had the car in because of the 1-2 shift shudder under moderate to hard acceleration. They replaced the clutch pack (known issue they told me) but although things seem improved under moderate accel, I think it is still there under hard throttle.

Other than that, the brakes squeak at every stop in forward and reverse. My '99 GTP felt more solid than this car but I am still getting used to it.

Bob, what brakes do yo have in the car? The OE ones? If so switch to the ceramic pads. Much quieter than the stock metallic ones and they last longer. The stock pads are only good for about 20kmi.

Thanks, I had a good Thanksgiving here. Sorry to hear about those of you that had some bad experiences. All in all, it seems like these cars are pretty solid. I am looking to get new brakes myself pretty soon. I'm just kind of scared but yet positive about the ceramics. I just need a little piece of mind that these ceramics will hold out longer and not make noise. My factory ones' have been 100 percent silent so far with a little over 25,000 miles on my 07. I'm also concerned about my slotted rotors - I'm hoping not to have any issues getting them trimmed. I've heard some horror stories about some places not being able to shave our rotors. Just a little worried about this.

I did the ceramic brake upgrade and while after 1 month there is no dust at all I do hear squeaking and it is nerve racking. I used raybestos pro series from Rock Auto. My car has a noise coming from the steering after every cold start. Just waiting on the New England winter to see how bad it is in the snow and if I will have to spring for snow tires. I just found some spark plugs on Amazon for our cars, Autolite XP5245 iradium plugs for $2.45 each. I ordered them now as I think this is a good price. I'll probably throw them in before spring before my first track visit.

Roger, don't worry about the ceramics. I put them on at 20K and didn't even cut the rotors and have had absolutely 0 issues. They are quiet, stop on a dime and NO brake dust to speak of. I used the GM ceramic rotors.

rottonj, I went through the upstate NY winter last year on the original Bridgestones. They were not bad at all. I'm gonna try again this year with 28K on them now.

Thanks for that advice on the brakes and rotors. I'll keep all of this in mind when I'm ready to head to the shop. The brakes still feel fine. But with 25,000 miles or so they are probably getting close.

Update:

Can't go through the winter with the original R050A's. They did not pass inspection due to the passenger side front tire being too worn on the very inside of the tire. I could barely see it even as the guy was pointing it out to me. I shoulda kept a closer eye on the alignment. Oh well too late now. In any event, no one local has these size tires in stock. Glad I got the spare.

Bob if replacing the clutch pack didn't stop the shudder then it must be something else. If they say they can't fix it then contact a GM rep, and keep on them until it's fixed right. If after 3 repairs it doesn't fix the problem, you can impose the lemon law on them and get a new car.

Rottonj the intermediate steering shaft is defective on some of the earlier 2004+ GP's. I don't know what year your car is but it could be that. There is a TSB to replace it if your car is still under warranty, if not you'll have to pay for the repair yourself.

I purchased mine new and only drive it in the summer, and only some times at that, she's got a hair over 20,000 miles on her and Ive had zero issues with it, It seems to me that some(depending on the year) have had tans problems intermediate steering shaft problems, power steering problems and so on, Im wondering, why is it that some have issues and some don't I know there are alot of us that can say that they have had no issues at all, go figure!

That is strange Mark, I didn't have any problems for my 2004 GP in the 3 years I owned it either. Yet others have had all kinds of problems with their car. I hope my new G8 GT is as trouble free as the GP was.

Yes I did Mark, and I love it! I got a good deal on a used 2008 and traded in the GP for it. You can see pics of it in the G8 area.

Thanks Joe, I just hope the Arrest Me Red doesn't get me in trouble. It's so easy to go fast in this car, and the higher I rev the motor the better it sounds!
