Is mine lining up wrong? My dad and someone else pointed this out to me as "wrong," but although it is an unusual/uncommon look, I think it looks right and just fine.

It fits 100% perfect with the quarter panel and headlight on the outer edges, yet overlaps to a high degree on the inner edges.

Looks perfect from the side. It fits the curvature of the front quarter panels, so I assume it isn't improperly aligned...?

Looks just fine although not in line at the top.

So what's the verdict? Does everyone have alignment like this? Or is my hood aligned improperly? Either way, I'm keeping it as is, because it prevents a lot of dirt getting under the hood, but I'm curious to know the truth.

My old 06 N/A was like this too, driver's side was like 2mm lower than the fender but I fixed that.. I didn't even bother with the front, hardly noticeable.

It appears to be a little off ... but unless you actually point it out, I really don't think it's that noticeable

Well, the thing is, the front bumper lines up with the quarter panels at the correct height. It's not lower or higher in any way. Here's a high res pic of the front to show that:

You can really tell there's a quite unusual (based on other non-GP cars--I've never looked at another GP up close--not having any overlap) overlapping going on. But the hood fits the curvature of the fenders/quarter panels perfectly.

Just looks like the hood itself needs to be pushed back a tad bit ... curvature would still look the same

Fenders are what are inside above the wheels.

Fenders- the pressed and formed sheet-metal part mounted over the road wheels of an automobile, bicycle, etc., to reduce the splashing of mud, water, and the like.

I consider the terms interchangeable though... but literally, there are front quarters and rear quarters to a sedan. They are literally 25% of the car and each end. The terms are used with coupes, but in the case of something with two doors, it would make sense to me to call them third panels, but nobody would agree with that.

So I am guessing my hood is off. Oh well. Looks just fine as is.

1. i`ll get laughed at
2. the rest of the guys will call me a dumbass and say why am i fixing cars
3. your not going to correct a 20yr body fender tech not going to happen sorry but thanks for playing

Your hood is alligned correctly. Look and almost any 04+ GP, and it looks exactly the same. If you really think about it, how could they make the hood make the same curve for the fender, and around the headlamp, but still match the bumber? The only way to make it look like it would match up, would be to actually make the hood narrower than the bumper, which would then not be correct.

Oh, and by the way, there is no such thing as a front quarter panel. Front fender is the outer most exposed part of the car, over the wheels on the front. The INNER FENDER is what is on the inside.

I don't fix cars for a living BUT we do buy car's from the auction that have been smashed and I've taken classes for Auto Body and I'd have to agree with you, it's a fender and inner fender. I've never heard anyone refer to it as a front quarter panel but I guess if it makes him feel better you could "technically" call it that.

I checked out a 2008 Grand Prix for sale at a local Ford dealership, and the hood on my car is indeed lining up the same as the car I checked out, so it must be proper.

Strangely enough, the GP I checked out was a dark brown metallic color. I looked it up a few weeks ago, and the color is called mocha something. Must be rare as heck, because I've never seen a GP like that. Gorgeous subtle color. Park Cities Ford has it listed as black on their site.
