Hello all,
Had a question regarding my cooling system. It has been a fairly mild summer in New England and got hot just recently. Regardless, I just happened to notice that my temp needle has a tendency to fluctuate quite a bit. It never runs hot - just seems to move around a bit more than I possibly had noticed before. This happens primarily when I am in the city in stop and go type areas, through neighborhoods, stop signs, using tapshift, etc. But once on the highway or going at a steady pace the needle seems to be more settled. I just recently had it drained and flushed due to that "muddy" stuff and it seemed to make things a little cooler - again always within normal temp ranges. Before the flush, the needle seemed to drop further down to a little below the one quarter notch but has not done that since the flush. The engine temp regardless, never seems to go above normal ever. Can anyone relate to this and is this maybe normal ? Seems like the thermostat is opening and closing like almost too much. Maybe I'm crazy and thanks in advance for all your help. 07 Black, right around 29000 miles.

Its the way the fans are set on these cars. mine runs all over the place in stop and go but never get hot just like yours. The fans come on partially around 200 degrees or so and don't come on full until 220 or something like that. the guys with tunes don't have this issue as the fans come on a lot sooner.

Thank you very much for the great advice. Mine is stock except for the resonator delete, drop in k&n filter and swiss cheesed air box. It's my only car. I think I will go with that 180* thermostat with the safety on it so if it ever sticks, it will be stuck open rather than closed. I'll let you all know how it works out and thanks again.
