OK guys, here's a good one. In the last week or so I've had a noise coming from the front end. Its best described as a clunk/popping noise that can be felt. It does not happen going over bumps, but it will do it going straight over smooth roads, and without steering input. I'll be coasting or accelerating and it will do it.So i checked ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, end links, sway bar bushings, cv boots, and they are all tight and look good. I took it to the dealer since I still have the 5yr/100kmi warranty, and they said the ISS needs replacing (i knew that one) and also there is some play in the rack which I also had done about a year and a half ago under warranty for the same reason. The quote is $1K. The rack never made this type of noise before and I don't see how without any steering input the rack would be making a noise. Especially when there is no noise making turns. What do you guys think?? I'm going to my local mechanic who i've been going to for years to have him look at it, but I'd like your input.

**Edit** I just picked it up from the dealer and a whole new noise has appeared. Driver side of the engine and it get louder as the engine revs. Sounds like a small diesel. I would of left it there but the shop was closed. It at the local mechanic so well see what they say tomorrow.

I've heard about the engine cratle screw getting stripped or something on the regular GPs, maybe it's the same problem. The solution is to get spacers I think. This should be under warenty since this is a common problem.

Someone please post up more... I don't really remember that thread

Well, I talked to the shop this morning and they did say the ISS should be changed and could be that cause of the initial noise, but the rack is fine, they found no play. The other noise they'll check again next weekend when I take it in for the ISS replacement. He's thinking its exhaust related, maybe a leak. We kinda have to take it one issue at a time since there's a couple things going on here. Oh and he did look at all the mounts too and said they seem fine.

I get a lot of poping and clunking noise when the TC engages. Almost like the difference in power being applied to the different wheels is torquing the frame or connections.

i've noticed a noise/feeling kind of like a clicking noise that can be felt in the steering wheel mainly when turning the wheel hard or going over very small bumps/smooth road...is this what you are feeling too? It seems like its coming from the steering column or wheels, almost like something is loose

Check the wheel bearings on the fronts. Mine went out on the drivers side and sounded like what you described. If you have the powertrain warranty left it should cover the new wheel hubs it will require.

I checked the wheel bearings and they're tight as can be. I'm thinking it may be a half shaft going but I wont know until i drop it off Friday. I do have the power train left but those idiots think its just the ISS. I'll get the ISS taken car of and then take it back to them. Sucks that my old dealer closed down. The service dept was pretty good.

MassGXP that clunk you describe sounds like the ISS.
