OK. I was just pulling out of my subdivision and on to the main road when "Charging system failure" popped up for a second and then went away. I went to check the batt. voltage via the DIC and it was over 15v. As i watched it it slowly dropped down to 14.51 and stayed steady. Maybe the voltage regulator freaked out for a second? I dunno, thoughts? Battery is still original, that was on my mind.

mine used to do that. itll come on if the volts are over 15.8. i had the zzp voltage booster tho. took it off and never had the problem since. it got to the point where it would chime 30 times in a 10 minute drive. it drove me crazy. was it cold when it happened?

The outside temp was about 40, and rainy and the engine was cold. It was only running for 1 min or less.

I have the dic on battery and I'll keep an eye on it for a while. I have a feeling it was pretty high, because by the time i switched the dic to battery it was already dropping steadily. i think It was at 15.2 when i looked.

That is kinda low. If you have a multi-meter check the battery when the car is off and see what the voltage is. it should be above 12V

Ya well a battery should be holding 12.6V at a normal full charge. The baterys have 6 cells producing 2.1v per cell. But the rest of the time its like13.8-14.2V. Sojust get to wait around till something breaks.

Mine did this once a couple months ago on a regular winter day about a couple minutes after starting. It went away and never came back. The dealer checked it out and says nothing shows up as being a problem. These cars have way too much monitoring going on in them. Every other car you've ever owned probably had voltage spikes from time to time but never bitched about it.
