I've been having a problem with my brakes sticking after the car sits for a few days or longer. I was gone for 11 days and last night when I went to back out of my parking spot, I had to give it a lot of gas to get it to move and it snapped real loud when it popped free. So I took it to the dealer today and they said the rotors are pretty corroded and they would have to be turned. Also, I need new front brake pads. Anyone else run into this issue with their GXP? Keep in mind, I'm under 30,000 miles on this car. So I guess they don't make the brakes to last for the warranty period on the GXP?!?!?!?!

You're gonna have that if the car doesn't move much. Drive it, work the brakes, and all that, and you won't have the troubls.

I get the same thing on mine even with the aftermarket pads and rotors. I think the pads sit very close to the rotors ( more so than normal), that's why they stick with the slightest amount of moisture. Also, If you go to ceramic pads, it seems to lessen this a bit and they will last a lot longer than the factory pads, but with the drilled rotors the pads overall wont last as long as with blank rotors.

Brake pads weren't meant to last a long time on these cars. The car was meant to stop, and for the brakes to stay cool. I replaced my pads at 20,000 miles, and they almost needed it. I replaced with OEM but the ceramics. Bedded them in correctly, and I LOVE the new pads over the factory ones. No more brake dust to clean every day.

What is the part number for that pad? Where did you get them? What did you pay? And how do you "bed them in correctly?

Thanks!!

When I put on the Hawk Ceramics they recommended 8 stops from 35 to 5mph at moderate pressure, and 2 stops from 45mph to 5mph at high pedal pressure and let cool and smell those pads burnin. Do not come to a complete stop though.

I got mine through GM Partsdirect.com. $58 shipped to the door ( in about 3 weeks, they are slow ) Part # 19108021, this is for the fronts only.

I bedded them just like was said above. 3-4 stops at 30 to 5 mph, then 3-4 stops at 50-15 mph. then I rested them for about 20 minutes and did the same thing. Hit the brakes hard enough so the ABS has to activate to really get the pads warmed up.

Never had a squeak or issue since I've installed these, and the pad wear, which has been over a year and 10k miles is excellent.

When you changed the pads the very first time, did you also have to do the rotors? I have noticed that my rotors have the scoring on them (not smooth wear) so I'm wondering if just putting pads on is a good thing. I obviously don't want to change the rotors yet if I don't have to.

If they are scored you have to get the rotors machined if there is enough material left or get new ones. If you put the pads on the scored rotors you'll ruin the pads.

i've noticed the same thing with the brakes sticking mainly when it had rained the night before or when its cold. i've also noticed that when i step on the brakes at highway speeds that the steering wheel will shake...does this mean new pads or is it a rotor problem?? The car has 35K on it and the front pads were replaced by the previous owner at 16K.

Your rotors are most likely warped. You can try to get them machined if there is enough material left on the rotor. If not time for new pads and rotors.
