I noticed in some online pics yesterday that there is a phone button on the rearview mirror next to the OnStar...is this standard bluetooth connection? Or is there optional equipment that has to be added?

The reason I ask is my Sebring has a Uconnect ready radio head unit, but it has to have a module plugged in the back to make it active ($200 module) I was just wondering if the GM set-up was similar or ready to go if it has OnStar.

It's the OnStar phone button. You can use it to make calls through the car instead of your phone. I don't have OnStar, but I've used that function in my mom's Saturn Aura.

so you have to have the OnStar service for it to work...otherwise your in the same bucket as everyone else without bluetooth compatibility?

In theory, you could get a VCIM out of a 2009 model GM Class II vehicle with Bluetooth and it should work. First caveat is that you will loose OnStar support due to VIN numbers not matching (you need to find someone who's willing to reprogram your VIN into the new module).

You would activate Bluetooth by holding down the mute button on your steering wheel, then saying "Bluetooth." I haven't been in a rental car in a while, it may be "Dial" instead.

Final caveat, good luck finding a Class II VCIM at a reasonable price.

sounds like one of the aftermarket units would be abetter option at a lower price. I was looking at one over at Crutchfield the other day to fit my wife's Aztek...around $300 plus a few extras to make the iPod hook up and steering wheel controls work.

I have a Pioneer AVIC D3 with Bluetooth and iPod hook up. Love it.
