I keep reading in several posts that the 06 GXP has had some trans issues. I read over the things in the FAQ and did a couple of search sweeps. The only thing that seems to be brought up is that GM introduced a newer, stronger version of the trans for the 06 model year. The link to the PDF file makes no mention of the GXP while the other thread showcases the differences in the GXP trans vs the V6 apps.

Did the 06 GXP have trans problems that had to be addressed later?...is there something to look for if you were checking out a used 06GXP to buy?

This feels like one of those questions that has been asked plenty but has little in the way of definitive answers...any info would be welcome. I really do like these cars and I'd like to bone up as much as I can on them so I can be well informed if/when I go shopping.

Thanks in advance guys

There was a TSB out for TC shudder i think mostly for the 05's, but other than that I don't think there were any changes. The trans issues seem to be evenly spread out.

Yea the majority of the trans problems were in the 05's. But you gotta remember that the tranny for the LS4 is almost identical to the CompG tranny. 6 cylinder tranny in a V8.

That seems kind of like a driving style issue. I know I've got 140k trouble free miles on my present GP trans, while I know other owners who are on their second or even third trans (mostly due to drag racing and burnouts)

Since the GXPs are drive by wire, they have torque management just like the other 04-up to help save the tranny, right?

Do they come from GM with synthetic trans fluid?...or is that just an advisable upgrade?

Yeah, they do have TM, and the 05's came with DEX III and 06's and newer has Syn. DEX VI. Mine runs Amsoil and shifts like a champ at almost 50kmi.

Sounds like I'll be sticking with shopping for an 06-up model.

Thanks guys!

You'd be smart to go with an 07 or 08 model. They come with the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty where the 06 does not.
