I bought my 06 GP GXP in July with 26K miles on it. I recently had to bring it to the dealer to get the original stock exhaust replaced because it corroded-out. The service manager said he's never seen that before. It was still covered under the Certified Warranty so i'm not mad, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? The car now has 32K miles on it and I want to know if this is something I should expect every 30K miles or if it was a previous owners fault for poor underbody care.

When i took off my exhaust to install the magnaflow cat-back the mufflers were already splitting open at the welds. That was almost 2 years ago. Seems to be more of a northern climate issue i think (road salt).

Yeah, the exhaust is stainless but it was rusted. The tubing was still strong, but the mufflers were put together like crap. tiny little spot welds here and there.

Same thing with my '06 with 50,000. The dealer said it was normal for Michigan. Funny thing is that my '03 with 80,000 looked like brand new when I sold it. Apparently they had to cut corners somewhere.

MassGXP. You said you purchased used w/ 26k on the clock. I have seen some exhaust issues ( normally the cat ) where they will rust out much faster than normal, because the "cobs" are never cleaned out of them. What I mean is the car is always putted around town, and never driven hard to clear all the gunk and moisture out of the exhaust. Believe it or not, cars need to be driven full throttle every once in a while to clean the exhaust components out. IF you floor the car a couple times getting up to highway speed, you could possibly prevent this from happening again. Maybe the prev. owner always drove like a grandma.

Oh, and yes, stainless steel can still rust, it just takes a little longer. It still should be cleaned when possible.

It was a woman who owned the car before me lol, which does explain the need for new front pads. I just don't want this to happen in another 30k miles when she's not under warranty anymore.
