Did some Photoshop work tonight. Stock rims powder coated matte gunmetal with a red lip, and calipers painted black. What ya guys think? I kinda dig it, I might have to price some local powder coaters this summer

I vote no. The red is too random and the color just makes the whole car look a little dirty (or primered)

If your going to paint them, go metallic black. Or better, get the 19" stock G8GT wheels. YUM.

Just keep them the way they are, the wheels look horrible in black. Craig I agree with you on the stock 19" wheels, they look awesome!

I would leave them as is. The lighter color wheel looks better with the dark color of the car.

I saw an orange G8 with our wheels painted black and they didn't look good on the car. If I were you I'd get some nice chrome wheels and mount the Potenza's on them for the summer. Check out the wheels on this G8, they look HOT with that deep lip!

I think you should have the wheels done the same exact color as the car. See if they can do it with your paint code. Personally I like it, it's something different.

Silver wheels are boring, and I dont like the 19" wheels too much, theyre just too plain for me. I think the gunmetal gives it a low slung, bad ass look to it, and the red accent breaks them up from the tires a little bit like a polished lip would, but without attracting the attention a polished lip does. I think without some sort of accent it would look cheap and dirty. I left the rims without the red when I was doing the photoshopping and it looked kinda bad.

Heres an example of a black wheel with a red lip. Little more suttle than my idea, but along the same lines.

Let me get this straight, silver wheels are boring but they do stand out. A polished lip attracts attention, so that means it stands out. So how is a gunmetal wheel that blends in with the color of the car and doesn't stand out not considered to be boring? What you said is totally opposite of what you are trying to convey!

To me black or dark colored wheels are boring, they don't compliment the car, they just blend in. This is the reason that most people have silver or chrome wheels, unless they are driving a cop car, lol

Look at the picture of the G8 in the link I posted above. Those wheels stand out and compliment the car. The first thing I noticed when I saw that car was those badazz wheels!

Well its just a difference of opinion I guess. I think darker wheels on a dark car compliment the car itself, while also looking good themselves without detracting from the car. Kinda like on this MB, which IMHO a silver wheel would look terrible on....



I dont mind the polished lip either, it would be a toss up between that or a thin red stripe on the lip of a solid color wheel depending on the lip style. On our rims we couldnt do a polished lip because there really isnt much of a lip period. But I personally do think there needs to be some sort of color/accent to seperate the wheel from the tire.

I dont think the wheels should be the first thing you see when you see a car, it should be the car itself. But thats just me I would like the wheels on that orange car you posted better if they had a gunmetal or black center section.

I always liked the SLR. Odd car, I like ingress/egress for a supercar. Really easy compared to a Ferarri 599 GTB or a Lamborghini Murcielago. It does look a little like the old Batmobile from the early 90s movies, but it's hellaciously fast.
