Well over the past few months I had something making a ton of noise in the back of the G8 when I have the radio cranked up. It seemed like I had a blown Sub Woofer and it was driving me nuts. After talking to a friend of mine (Worked in audio for many years) He told me my subs sounded good and didn't think it was the subs that were causing the noise. He pointed out a few things that could be the source of the rattle and gave me a few tips. Today I was driving and the rattle was so loud it was driving me nuts, This one particular techno song really helped me find the source. Our 3rd brake light is up near the roof inside the car, The trim that is around the light that goes into the headliner was rattling up against the back window..

I figured I would point this out for a few of the G8 owners here, Something so stupid like this.

No spare in the G8. Cars came with a air pump.

The back window on the GTOs sometimes rattle (odd, I know). Oddly enough, I would have assumed that the G8's, like the GTOs, had less rattles than your standard GM vehicle. Have you considered the suspension? The exhaust hangers?

It was the trim around the 3rd brake light. I tested it and it stopped.

My license plate rattled like a SOB until I added 1/4" foam all the way around the edges. And that shit was loud!

Give it time, more rattles will develop. That's the downfall of GM interiors. My GP did it, my GTO does it and I expect when I get a G8, that it will do it too, lol!

I am trying to come up with a solution to the problem right now. Maybe some double sided tape to hold it up against the window tight.

That would prolly do it. I used that 1/4" foam tape all over the interior too. Our steering console is notorious for rattling as well, and some well-placed strips silenced those rattles.

I think I will take this route.
