This guy was spraying nitrous and the #8 piston blew. All the pushrods and most of the valves are bent. The only thing left from #8 is broken pieces. You can see the pics of the motor in the link below.

omg, carnage. Ouch!! Never been a fan of nitrous for that exact reason. Of course, the same end-result could be had from boost.....but at least with a turbo or supercharger youre not driving around with a bomb in the trunk. lol

^^Glad I'm not the only one. Yeah Don, if I had something as nice as a G8 I definitely wouldn't be throwing Nitrous at it, if longevity means anything anymore. Then again, I guess when you have $$, motors become expendable

He changed the nitrous jet and the tune wasn't setup for it, that's why it blew.

Dan that's nice GTO you have there! When did you get that?

As Don said, one of the main reasons this motor blew is because it wasn't tuned for it. If it's a proper setup with a safe size shot on it, it can and will still hold longevity. I personally know several guys who run over a 100 shot (some 125, some 150, both wet and dry) and their LS motors are still fine.. same thing with a friend with a Cobra motor. All it is is extra power.... If the motor can handle FI then it can handle the same HP from nitrous.. think of nitrous as boost.

Dan I did a little reading and I see your car is a manual with a body kit, plus you picked up an HP Tuner. Have you tuned it yet and do you have any other mods? Since you have the G8's brother you should come into the G8 area once in a while. I was shocked that you paid more for it than I paid for my used G8 with less miles.

GTO's aren't cheap...especially in AZ. It was actually the cheapest I had found at the time and it had all the "options" I wanted, and then some. There aren't very many GTO's out there with sunroofs ;)!

As for mods, I have a CAI on it and the iPod AUX mod that allows me to hookup any mp3 player into her. Other than that, I plan on wheels, bushings (there are a lot of em on our car, lol), new springs (not lowering, just to fix the common rear sag problem), Short-throw shifter, exhaust (hopefully header-back), possibly cam and definitely tune.

I have an HPTuner, but I got it because my last boss gave me such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up. I'll probably end up selling it, but I'm hoping to learn to use it. No, i'm not tuned yet either though.

And I do visit the G8 section, but just never post! But that doesn't exempt you from browsing around!!!

I guess I'll have to visit the other cars section, I have to admit that I never do. I think a tune and headers/exhaust would be enough, you already have a more aggressive cam than I do. That will put you close to 450hp at the crank, which is enough for the street.

intake/headers/tune/ported & polished tb and intake manifold and you'll be 400 at the wheels, for under $2500, with headers being your single largest expense. throw a cam into that equation and shit, you're at 450 wheel.. or skip the cam for now and do 3:91's. mmmmmm.

and BTW, Don... you guys can run right with us with a tune (a very aggressive tune). I had a G8 with a tune run me cause he wanted to see if he'd be closer to me than he was stock.. we played cat and mouse until a speed I will not say (lol) when I finally took over.. those G8s are some dirty competition lightly modded...

it only did that cause he sprayed on a down shift. this is why you install the throttle plate, so when the throtttle isnt at wot it shuts off

You mean a window switch? A throttle plate would be like a WOT switch that sprays only when the TB is completely open.

Miranda I know the G8 is no slouch, but the more aggressive cam in the LS2 gives the the GTO the advantage. The GTO might be a little lighter too. I don't know what it weighs but the G8 is 4000lbs. With my mods it would be a drivers race with a stock manual 05-06 GTO.
