I have been living with my fiancée for just about 5 years now, our finances have been combined as well. We both discuss large purchases before making them. And we officially tie the knot in May '10.

But, I have known Blackwood for a while, and I'm sure he expected me to bust his balls and say something like that lol... right Dwayne?

Wouldn't be you if you didn't.

No dice, she drives a SUV. So whenever we go somewhere with the kids, it's in her truck. That's for my sanity. The SUV has 3 rows of seats. So I can put one in the back and one in the middle to cut down on the fighting. When we went to Gatlinburg for Easter week, we took my mom's Saturn because the SUV needed tires and my car was getting its transmission rebuilt. I threatened several times to drop them off on the side of the road. When we went back to Tennessee for the NSA World Series, we took the SUV. It was actually quiet most of the way there and back.

I have 4 kids and we use the minivan when we all go somewhere together. I only use the G8 when I go to work or don't have the kids.

A tune and CAI will help tremendously, the factory tune is holding the power hostage.

+1 The torque management is what really kills the shifting. Blackwood said in his first post "It would bog a little when I would first get on the throttle. After that, it stood up and hauled ass. " That bogging is the torque management kicking in and reducing power right off throttle. It also reduces power during the shifts. I guess GM doesn't trust their own transmissions.

J Someone mention the transmissions being "sloppy" without a tune and I don't really notice that at all.

Still don't understand how the G8 is sloppy. Who told you? Have you driven one? I noticed it a little when its cold but once up to temp everything was fine. Nothing a superchip can't fix.

Once you get some sort of tune (I personally recommend taking it to a tuner and getting a dyno tune) you won't want to go back. I had to get my car flashed back to stock for work done at a dealer, and for the time I drove the car on the stock flash I pretty much hated life lol. Get a good tune and your 1-2 and 2-3 shifts will really grab hard instead of feeling like a Lexus.

but the trans is SLOPPY, almost as bad as a stock GP. A tune (with HPTuners, IMO) will clean that up nicely and if you get someone who is quite good at tuning, you can keep up with LS2 GTOs.

+1, with a full ECM and TCM tune hanging with a GTO should be easy. Just the TCM tune probably wont get ya there though.

You tune it and you lose your warranty... Its not worth it to me, Even with a superchips tuner the dealer will see how long the car has gone since codes have been cleared. My autotap tells me that, and I am sure the dealer will be able to see how long its been since the ECM has been screwed around with. Trust me, I am all for tuning a car but in this case its not worth it.

"You tune it and lose your warranty" LOLOLOL

I can tell you first hand that I had a tune, had it flashed back to stock the night before it went to the dealer (with a tune from a completely different car, not even mine because I was out of state!), they ran the PCM through whatever it is they run it through, and it came back clean as a whistle and they couldn't tell a thing. In fact, my car has the tune back on it right now, and its at the dealer for warranty ball joint replacement. So dont tell me you lose your warranty!

Stop procrastinating and get it tuned. Until you do, you are missing half of what the car has to offer you due to GMs engineering negligence.

It's not the engineers fault. They know exactly how to get the most out of those engines. It's the government bureaucrats that force emission standards on them. Their hands are tied because of tree huggers.

Nobody has been busted with a Superchips tune as long as you retune it back to stock before you so to the dealer for warranty work.

If the dealer really wanted to look into what caused the engine or transmission to fail, I think they would catch it. I am not saying I wouldn't buy a superchips tuner, However if they wanted to really bust balls, I think they could find out the PCM has been flashed.

Btw, I plan on buying a tuner in the next few months, Winter is screwing me though. ;-)

If you get someone who knows what they're doing they can flash it back to stock if that's what you're worried about.. It does wonders for a car.. The first day I had my GTO (while it was still almost stock, just a minor tune we were tuning it actually that day) a G8 w/ intake and a superchips tune wanted to race... so I say ok.. muff daddy's in the car and we pulled on him.. but with muff's G8 with just a custom tune it keeps side by side and we actually play a little game of cat and mouse. it's worth it!!! I don't know how you could own a car like that and keep the shitty restrictive tune on it!!

Wrong, the tree huggers arent the one that told GM to use torque management. I have no bones with the stock ECM tune, as there is only about ~15-20whp to gain there, however there is also another mpg or two to gain as well as some better drive-ability. I am talking about the TCM (transmission) tune. And the flaring issue, which is a whole separate problem to begin with. But the stock TCM tune is what really rapes the fun factor of the G8. And that has nothing to do with tree hugging hippies or emissions standards ;-)
