We'll I think I am about ready to start talking to dealers. But I want to be as knowledgeable about the vehicle as I possibly can before walking into the dealership. I know that I want the red GT with Onyx leather interior, and a sunroof. This is probably gonna be just a summer ride...so I am considering the 19" wheels with summer tires. What else do I need to look for? or ask about? Do I want a 2009.5 over a 2009? Hoping to get some helpful insight from the other G8 owners here. Thanks in advance!! :)

(this doesnt have to do with the car exactly)

But when you go in there DO NOT tell them how much you can pay per month/already pay a month....AND DO NOT tell them ANYTHING about a down payment.

(They will try to tell you that they need to know to work the deal. THE BANK DOES THE LOAN. THE BANK DOES THE PAYMENTS. NOT the dealer)

About the car though:
The more you know about it. The better off you are. Chances are, the salesperson, probably wont know much about the car. (They might though)

Know that the GT is around 350 HP and 350 ft lbs of torque. (Know that torque is more important in a CAR than horsepower)
Example: My G8 is a V6. It has 261 HP. It also has about 261 ft lbs of torque. (Thats impressive for V6's now adays....)
Know that the G8 is actually a Vauxhall VXR-8 (Europe). Which is really a Holden Commodore.
SO, if they say its an American car. They are wrong. Pontiac is an American company. Yes.
BUT, G8s are actually made in Australia with a French transmission and an American motor that is actually built in Mexico.
Know that the G8 GT HAS a 6.0L L76 motor. It also features a Limited Slip Differential. (The V6 model does not (V6 has a 3.6L LY7 motor (Great motor too)))
Also know that the GT features 'Active Fuel Management'

Most importantly....Know the CURRENT rebates available to new GM customers.
i.e. If you already own a GM vehicle....you get 1500 off instantly for loyalty discount
You should also get like 3500 off just for buying a new GM....(Id check on that one though)

Thats a long post, but hopefully it help ya a little....if you have anymore questions....just pm....I just bought my G8 less than two months ago.....

Good luck finding one with a sunroof. We haven't had a dealer this side of the state with one yet. :(

Dealers will be very hard pressed to sell you the car saying it's very limited blah blah blah. There are probably almost 40k G8s made already... that is more than every modern GTO produced. Don't let them fool you.

Thanks AbsurdBuffalo, for the info! Yeah, the first car or two that I bought I fell into the "how much do you want to pay" trap. Ever since then, I always go by the total price of the vehicle and already have an idea of what my payment will be (cause I already know roughly what my interest rate will be). I figure the dealers made a few $$ off of me when I bought my first couple cars....now its my turn to get some of it back. :)

Thanks Saturate15, I just checked my local dealer and he has 50 sitting on his lot. Hopefully one will be mine before too long....

and DO NOT let the dealer tell you it has an LS2 in it. It DOES NOT have an LS2, it has an L76 with a completely different head/cam setup!!

I like your wheels !! I'm not crazy about the stock G8 wheels. Interested to see what other options are available.

Mine actually are the stock rims that come on the V6 model. The dealer i bought the car from had an on-site custom shop that did custom work and they took the wheels and powder coated them with the same panther black metallic that my car is.

Everyone always asks me what kind of rims they are....But they ARE just the stock ones with a twist.

And the rims i have were actually forged and manufactured by Enkei for GM. (There is an Enkei Foundry stamp on one of the spokes on the backside of each rim)

-What dealer are ya plannin on buying from? I wanna browse their inventory....

Some Enkei RPF1's or something would look SICK on a G8... wheels make a car.

Very ccol! It gives your G8 a unique look.

http://www.pontiac.com/locateVehicle.do ... mCount=100

Ed Schmidt Pontiac is the dealership closest to me. There are a few others very close too. I must have read the site wrong...there are 50 G8 GTs at all the dealers locally. I had planned on getting my best price from one and then head out to the others and see what they are willing to do.

I agree.

MSRP: $33,660

Balance: $27,276 plus tax before trade

Nope, not at all. I'd spring for that, if I could afford it for certain.

You don't get all those discounts with employee pricing since it's already a discounted price. I had a sunroof in my Grand Prix and my wife has one in her Nissan minivan and both of them don't/didn't work well at all. I'm so glad I don't have one in my G8, they are too much trouble.

Yeah, I've had one on my 100,000 mile 2000 GP GT and a 98 Monte Carlo Z34 and never had any issues with either.

We'll i've been doing some looking, and waiting, hoping the July incentives would be better. The 0% for 72 months sounds pretty good. I've found a GT w/Premium and SPort packages with 19" wheels and sunroof. Sticker is 34,990. I can go two routes....the discounts or the 0% It looks like the 0% is the cheapest route. Best I can do is 4.9 from my credit union. The are giving be a price of 27,600 with discounts...31,600 without.

**tax, title and plate transfer included....others we telling me to add this...

Its a 2009, so no bluetooth...but I see it may be available now as an aftermarket mod.

This dealer is roughly 60 miles away, my local dealers have little in stock and don't seem to eager to find a vehicle.

Is there any hagling with employee pricing? or is it pretty much set?

Thanks!!

Im not sure, but the thing you have to know is that all those discounts ARE NOT coming from the dealer. They will probably lie to you and tell you that they are taking the hit on it.

The rebates and whatnot come from GM, the dealer marks down the price of the car, but then, GM reimburses the dealer for those mark downs....So either way, the dealer gets the same amount of money.

Another really good thing to do is go to lots of different dealerships and learn what they have to say about rebates.....If you get a few good ones, they will actually know what they are talking about.

And it doesn't have to be a Pontiac dealer either...Go to Chevy and other GM dealers to learn what GM has available right now.
Then just compare and cross-reference what they say.....

different cars are worth different things to dealers. at our dealership right now G8s are gold, and are selling as such. I know a guy who went to Minnesota a few days ago and traded an 05 Vette w/ 40k on it straight across for a G8 GT.. at the dealership here they wanted another 5k.. don't fear traveling for a vehicle.

We'll I gotta call this morning, and the car was sold. I should've put a deposit. I was gonna head there tomorrow for the sale too. We'll I've found a few more within 100 miles, but they want almost $2000 more than the one I was just about to buy, same exact options too.

Can you guys suggest a good way to search. I've used autotrader. The pontiac site will only show sedans...not GT's when i change the search area.

At the Pontiac G8 home page click Locate a Vehicle at the top of the page, and a box will appear for you to enter a new zip code. Then on the next page you can select G8 GT and all the GT's in that area will appear.

Ok I just tried it and that doesn't work. You will have to close your browser and then clear any cookies related to Pontiac.com, then go back there and click Build Your Own and a box will appear to type in the new zip code. Then on the next page you can select G8 GT at the bottom of the page and all the GT's in that area will appear.
