Hey there,

Malefic got me thinking about things on my suspension post below, so I went out and test drove a 2009 G8 GT today just to see how I would like it. :) I was not able to drive it very far or very long since it was just about out of gas and I did not want to get stuck, but I have to say I was slightly disappointed. I thought there would be a bit more torque than my car and a bit more "push you back in your seat" feeling. When I pressed the pedal in WOT, the G8 had a bit of lag before kicking in and seemed kinda flat. I drove a 2005 GTO last year and that definitely had a nice Kick! :) and...yes...50 extra hp too.

They want $25,800 for the G8 GT and it does have the 19" rims. I asked them what they would give me for my vehicle and they said they could go as high as $6K, which is not too bad considering it is a dealer. I could probably get $7500 if I sold it outright.

here is the G8
http://www.parkschevrolethuntersville.c ... vd/8006506

I know there are more opportunity for mods with the G8, but would it be worth paying 25K over 3 or 4 years? Not sure...I would have to drive it more.....but my initial gut instincts say no. Am I crazy? ?? :) LOL

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Ya I would have gotta a GTO if it looked has good has the G8. I decided that the G8's looks and suspension outweighed the HP. I'm pretty sure a nice intake, headers, exhaust, and tune will wake it up.

FYI I got the G8 for $22K with 37,000 miles from a private owner

Oh and the 09 lost some hp due to emissions or something. It's in the exhaust I believe.

I did not really put he G8 suspension to the test. How is it compared to ther GTO or GTP compG?

don't have a comp g, but I do have AGX KYB's on the GP and it can't compare to how nimble the G8 feels. I really have tested out a GTO exept for a 30 roll to 60 with a friend's car. Just look at all the YouTube video reviews of the cars. I feel that the G8 got more positive reviews vs the GTO

They installed "pup" cats in the exhaust along with the main ones and the HP level dropped to 355. Suspension is comparable between the two but the G8 definitely has more weight to throw around. The G8 I am grabbing comes fully equipped with a Pedders Xa street suspension. :D

i can tell you how much having pup cats and full cats can suck. also makes it more pricy when one dies

thank god aftermarket single cats work fine

Hmm......so a "pup cat" is a secondary cat placed in line with the existing cat? and this was on the 2009 but not the 2008? wow...that sucks. So that means the the 2008 has a few more hp ....361 vs 355?

Ahh wow.....Pedders....nice catch on the G8. I also drove a used M3 series yesterday too and THAT suspension was excellent! Put my current vehicle to shame! :)

I leased a 2004 GTO and got it for $148/month....what a steal! But I could get a used 2005+ GTO for 15K and put Pedders, CAI...etc and still be way under the G8 price.....but then I would sacrifce the trunk.

Can you put a baby seat in the rear seat of a GTO?? LOL

I thought the "pup cats" were only on the later 2009 models and not the early 2009. There are some other small differences between early and late 2009 models. Bluetooth and rear seat pull out cup holders are also only available in the mid or late 2009 models.

An intake and tune really wakes the car up. Especially the TCM tune.

Did you drive the G8 in regular drive? Or did you try sport mode or full manual? I said the same in regular drive, You can notice some hesitation.

When you removed your traction control what do you actually gain? I never removed it for anything other than trying to get the car unstuck from the snow.

Looks like I am in need of another test drive! :) I want to give the car a fair chance and I will definitely ask that they fill the tank so I can take on I-77 and I will ensure I am in Sport Mode.

Also, what would you all consider to be a fair price for a 41K mile G8 GT , with 19inch rims...and all the bells and whistles??

How much could I get for my car on the on the street?? I am guessing with all my mods....about $7000-$7500? or am I dreaming!

True, this came on the 2009.5 model to help meet emission standards but most people end up removing them anyway with a cat back.

In excellent shape its value is right around 27K. According to KBB.com, However I maybe missing a few options.. Ask for the car fax on this car too.. As for the GP I have no idea.. Dealers around here don't really want modified cars, Especially tuned.

my dealer would offer the low end trade in on a modded car as they sit on lots for ever and tend to sell for less then a stock car

best bet private sale ont he GP or demod

Prices on the G8 aren't really at a solid price, you just gotta be lucky. I got mine for 22K w/37000 miles. I saw another for 22K but with 51000 miles.

The factory tune on the G8 is lame. A performance tune makes a big difference.

I finally had the chance to drive a g8 gt yesterday for awhile. Honestly I was not impressed. Maybe its because it was a model without leather and some other options but the interior felt kinda cheap even compared to my comp g. That center DIC seemed like a step back into a mid 90's corvette. I also now realize how much I am going to miss my hud. Of course it handled awesome and was plenty fast.

Ya.. The center LCD gauge got plenty of negative comments. I already fixed that problem by getting the HSV center gauge pod with aeroforce gauges. I guess coming from a GT1, this interior is pretty good in my opinion.

I would like to do that same setup with the Aeroforce gauges.
