Good day!

I just got back from driving s 2005 GTO and now my decision is much more difficult. When you stomp on the pedal that vehicle just wakes up and pushes you back into your seat. Even my wife enjoyed it. LOL This particular GTO only had 16K and was priced as $22K. This dealership specializes in performance type vehicles and I asked them to appraise my vehicle.....and they said 4K....but they also said I could get 9k if I sold it on the street. They told me that they appreciated my vehicle because it was so clean and done right, but would be difficult to sell on the lot.

so here we are..... the top contenders are...

$25K - 2009 G8 GT with 41K miles
$22K - 2005 GTO with 16K miles

they also had a 2005 GTO with 89K miles for $14K.....

Any thoughts? I am kinda leaning to the GTO...

For the reasons I mentioned I'd get the G8. I drove a GTO and I wasn't impressed. Plus $22K for a 7 year old car is way too much.

I hear ya again Don, but like the G8....the GTO has held their value since the demise of Pontiac. The KBB values are in the lower 20's and high teens. Fun factor- GTO, Family factor - G8. LOL

But now that I have read about the Superchip tunes....my interest in the G8 has grown.

Both cars have the same engine block but the G8 has better flowing heads. The GTO has a hotter cam since it doesn't have DOD, which is why it puts out 40 hp more. The G8 will respond more than the GTO to an aftermarket cam with DOD lifter replacement since it has higher flow heads.

Another advantage of the G8 is the 6-speed auto/manual trans versus the 4-speed auto only in the GTO. It makes the car quicker because the gears are close ratio and it has a lower overdrive top gear for better gas mileage. The manual mode auto is a lot of fun to drive after the trans is tuned with the Superchips tuner. But if you go with a 6-speed manual trans in the GTO that's not a factor.
