Good day,

I will have had my car for a week this upcoming Saturday and I am delving into the modding slowly.....but with purpose!

My first mod was buying front Weathertech floor mats and they fit like a glove and hopefully they will not "recede" over time like my Husky's did on my GTP.

I also want to buy some sort of film for the interior rocker trim because I scuffed my GTP trim over the years and it looked like crap. Any ides on a clear/colored protective film?

The second mod will be a Billet Catch Can.....but I would like to know if this is really worth it?

Third Mod will be a CAI....probably a Roto Fab.....and of course a Cortex Superchips tune.
I read that oiled filters could void the PT warranty....so maybe a dry filter??

Fourth Mod - once the 100K PT warranty expires....new cam and lifters... :)

What?!?! You've had the car for almost a week and haven't posted pictures of it?? Pictures of BAN :D

Weathertech mats were my first interior mod, best thing I've gotten for the interior! Well to keep it clean at least.

Catch can is worth it, after just a week of installing it I saw some results inside the can. You can get one off eBay for $100. It's an easy install. Took me maybe 10 mins

Rotofab is a good intake, but the vcm intake is the best (but costs the most too)

Hmmm I posted a pic in my farewell thread on the GP side of the forum, but yes, will do so here too :) Do not want to get banned! LOL

Did you ever get a CAI tune for your VCM?

At the moment, I cannot afford both the tune and the CAI. What would you suggest first? the tune?

And...can you send me a link to the vendor you used for your catch can?

Thanks!

Get the intake first, then get the tune since you would need to get a re-tune after the intake anyway.

I plan on getting the weather tech mats myself.. A few people have told me not to bother with the catch can, So I never did. As far as intakes go I guess it really depends what you are looking for.. I have Roto-Fab with the oiled filer and I really like it.. You get better performance out of it with a Superchips tune. I never heard about the oiled filer voiding a warranty, I call bullshit on that.

So how much HP/torque did you gain with your CAI and Cortex Tune?

I stand corrected!! CAI does not void the warranty......just be careful of an Overly Oiled CAI :)

Older bulletin which still applies
#04-07-30-013B: Info - Automatic Transmission Shift, Engine Driveability Concerns or Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On as a Result of the Use of an Excessively/Over-Oiled Aftermarket, Reusable Air Filter - (Feb 1, 2007)

Subject: Automatic Transmission Shift, Engine Driveability Concerns or Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On as a Result of the Use of an Excessively/Over-Oiled Aftermarket, Reusable Air Filter

Models: 2007 and Prior GM Cars and Light Duty Trucks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to add models and model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-07-30-013A (Section 07 -- Transmission/Transaxle).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DO THIS

First, Inspect the vehicle for a reusable aftermarket excessively/over- oiled air filter

DON'T DO THIS
DO NOT repair MAF sensors under warranty if concerns result from the use of an excessively/over-oiled aftermarket, reusable air filter.

The use of an excessively/over-oiled aftermarket, reusable air filter may result in:

• Service Engine Soon (SES) light on

• Transmission shift concerns, slipping and damaged clutch(es) or band(s)

• Engine driveability concerns, poor acceleration from a stop, limited engine RPM range

The oil that is used on these air filter elements may be transferred onto the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor causing contamination of the sensor. As a result, the Grams per Second (GPS) signal from the MAF may be low and any or all of the concerns listed above may occur.

When servicing a vehicle with any of these concerns, be sure to check for the presence of an aftermarket reusable, excessively/over- oiled air filter. The MAF, GPS reading should be compared to a like vehicle with an OEM air box and filter under the same driving conditions to verify the concern.

The use of an aftermarket reusable air filter DOES NOT void the vehicle's warranty.

If an aftermarket reusable air filter is used, technicians should inspect the MAF sensor element and the air induction hose for contamination of oil prior to making warranty repairs.

Transmission or engine driveability concerns (related to the MAF sensor being contaminated with oil) that are the result of the use of an aftermarket reusable, excessively/over-oiled air filter are not considered to be warrantable repair items.

Excessive oil on filters is not good for any car.. Fucks up the MAF and its all downhill from there..

With the Roto-Fab intake, Superchips tune (93 Octane) And the Corsa exhaust system I picked up about 30 horsepower or so.. I didn't do a stock dyno run, I just based it off the stock specifications.

I was thinking that intially, but.....I am now thinking that if I can afford only one of two right now, I probably would get the Cortex tuner since even with the stock intake, I would see some benefit. And then once more funds appear, get the CAI. Once I have the tuner, I can make adjustments as needed.

does this sound like reasonable logic?

I did the Cortex tune first and it was the most noticeable. Adding a CAI after that helped in the higher rpm range which is where the motor makes the most power. Superchips has custom tunes for the popular CAI's out there including the Rotofab.
