Now you'll see why I was charging like $200 for these ;-)

Step 1: Opening Head lights...

(most time consuming part of this whole thing.)

Materials needed
1. OVEN
2. Two flat head screw drivers

-Preheat the oven to 150 degrees and wait until it gets to that temp.
-Place head light inside oven and check up on it in 10-15 minutes
-Remove some rubber pieces from the head light if you want, I just did it just in case.
-Once it is rather hot, remove the head lights from the oven using some towels (keep oven on)
-Place on a table and quickly start praying open the head head lights using the flat head screw driver.
Use one for praying it open and one to use to aid you hold the head light open. Start pray it open above the high beam and
make your way around the head light. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE PLASTIC INSERT PIECE. There are plastic tabs you need to
watch out for. If your stuck on a tab- use a cutting tool like a dermal to cut it.

Watch out for these points when taking them apart.

-Top center tab
Image

-Bottom center tab
Image

-Front corner tab
Image

-Rear center tab
Image

-If it begins to get increasingly harder to pray the head light open, put the head light back in the oven
-Repeat the same thing on the other head light too ;-)

Estimated time: 1 hour and a half

Step 2: Inspecting Plastic lens

- This is a perfect time to check for scratches and cracks in the lens. If you do have problems get this product. It's like $20 at advanced auto zone and it comes with everything you need to restore the head lights to brand new.

When sanding down the head light- make sure you remove all the damage with the 1500 grit before using the 2000 grit or else you will not get the desired results.

Step 3: Painting the plastic insert.

Materials needed:
1.Sand paper
2.Plastic prep
3.Flexible Primer
4.Paint
5.Clear coat
6.Gas mask (for toxic flumes)
7.Disposable rubber gloves
8.Scuff pad

I got my materials all over here, but there are other places you can go to : http://www.paintworldinc.com

-I first sanded down (1500 grit) the plastic insert so the primer has something to hold on to since the plastic is too smooth and glossy.
-Clean off the insert using some water and dry w/ paper towel
-Get your gas mask on and gloves and begin cleaning the insert with the plastic prep using the scuff pad. This well remove all contaminates from the plastic and assures the best adhesion to the insert. Let it dry and continue on the other one.
-Once they are both dry start applying the flexible primer to the inserts.
(It is important that you use flexible primer, it is designed for plastic parts. If you ever had cracks in you paint job? It's because to paint shop put the wrong primer. If you had an accident, the paint is to be scuffed and not crack. If you see this happen go back to the shop and complain.)
-Sand down the flexible primer (2000 grit) a bit and begin spray painting the insert. You want to evenly add layers of paint so don't take so long in one area. Let a light layer dry and being paint it again and you should be the desired color. Now let this dry...
-Applying the clear coat is the hard part in perfecting the whole thing. But, rest assured that it really doesn't matter all that much since the paint is going to be inside a nice shiny plastic lens. Just add it to assure the paint will last on the insert. If you can get the desired clear coat, kudos to you.

You may also want to tint you side markers for a cleaner look, I just graved some VHT and sprayed it on. You could also just send it over to flip for tinted too or try to do it yourself. There are a couple of way of getting the right results. I know some people use spray tinting stuff and others use a window tint and a hair drier (which is what I think what Flip does).

Estimated time... ??? 2-3 hours maybe

Step 4: Closing the head lights

There are 2 ways of doing this. Using silicon- which is the more costlier solution or... a Hot glue gun. What ever you use, just make sure you have a nice tight seal all around the head light so moisture doesn't enter the head light. If you begin to see water drop inside the head light you need to look for the problematic area and seal that up. If you use the hot glue gun, it's just a matter of applying heat and add a little more glue.

Estimated time: 15 min.s

Now they are ready for installation !! Get yourself a nice beer or if your underage, get yourself some soda and enjoy your custom head lights you did yourself.

Give her some money to go Christmas shopping or something... and during that time throw the head lights in the oven ;-)
