Parts Needed
1 pass side rear door handle off a sedan
1 drivers side rear door handle off a sedan
2 boxes "Door lock rod clips" from advanced p#75450
(what you really need is the black clips in the boxes)
2 small stainless steel bolts 2" long roughly the same as a standard rivet
2 stainless steel nuts
ALOT OF PATIENTS

Tools
T30 Torque Star (Long Handle)
10mm Ratchet w/ Long Extension
Flat Head Screw Driver
Razor Blade

Time
15 Mins Per Side

Process

1. Gather the parts list & tools
Image

2. this is the clip you must replace (the black one)
Image

3. we need to remove the door panel, start by removing the dressing clips w/ a flat head (mine is curved at the tip so it's more like a mini crowbar)
Image

4. now undo the torque screws, there is only 2 and they are a T30

5. now pull the whole panel off and disconnect the wires, the door panel is now able to be removed
Image

6. remove the plastic protector screen
Image

7. remove the Styrofoam
Image

8. now remove the two 10mm bolts holding in the door handle
Image

9. now carefully remove the door handle from the car until the rods prevent it from coming out any farther
Image

10. how follow the handle rod down till you find the locking clip, it's black and a though bugger, but a little brute force and it'll pop open
Image

11. now take a razor blade and break off the locking tabs (do this now for the rear handles as well
Image

12. remove the handle completely, here you can see the brackets are on the wrong side.
Image

13. cut the rivets off the old handle where the bracket is and the new handle on the same side
Image

14. remove the bracket off the old handle
Image

15. insert it into the new handle, you will need to bend the locking peg so it can fit into the channel, now here comes the hard part, bend the bracket so that the one with the prong goes from 90 degrees to 45 degrees. this step is the key to the whole thing working correctly. if it isn't bent correctly to lock the bracket into place this mod will not work!!!
Image

16. i left the old bracket on the door handle. it doesn't really matter if you leave it or not
Image

17. i used a stainless screw and nut instead of a rivet to replace the one we had to cut out
Image

18. another important step is to place the black rod clip into the new bracket before you put the rod in
Image
Image

19. this is how you place the rod back in. now carefully place the handle back into the hole. loosely add the bolts.
Image

20. straighten the rod, and clip the rod back into it's holder.

21. tighten the bolts up completely

22. check your work (also check the windows in case your rod is in the way)

23. reinstall the styrofoam

24. replace the plastic

25. reinstall the door panel

26. congrats you have just done this mod +35 exp

Yep.

Gives it a nice clean look. About the best think next to shaved handles. The only issue I could see ( would be the same with shaved handles also) is how does one get in if the battery goes dead?

I gotta love this GM. 2003 model is only one don't have keyhole on pass side. That's how mine got smooth look. My daily driving "2001" got one and it was ugly lol

I like it, Alex, looks very clean.

you could put an insulated wire (the rope kind used on the hood release) to pull the striker release rod from under the car.

But that is in the door not on the body.

I know its not a huge thing as guys shave all the time. Just seems risky. Guess you could put an "emergency" relese for the hood under the car tho. ( jump the battery and unlock the car.)

but the hood release cable is flexible so you could run it down the door to the wire loom and down the body by the tires if need be. and i will correct myself no with the rod and switch the word release striker rod w/ door lock rod

too much thinking right now, however i'd have to look on the stock handle and see which way it turns to unlock the car, they we could figure out the cable

-- Mon May 23, 2011 8:43 am --

unlocking pulls the rod up, locking pulls it down,

so if you did the cable idea it would have to have arc where the cable attaches to the rod so when the cable is pulled it will unlock that door.

however we could just do door poppers which is a button under the car that pops the striker latch to open the door. since locks are unnecessary on a shaved vehicle. (this is where my idea came from)

so option a would cost $5 and some ingenuity
option b 30 2 autoloc ( http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/how-do- ... 72223.html )

^^^ that site says something about a cable in the mirror. and since the mirrors are easy to pop the glass out of you could technically hide it there???

My problem with hiding a popper is that if someone knows what to look for, they'll get your car open super easy.

^^^ which is why if i do make the rod cable, i will only show how to attach it to the lock and use it to unlock the door, no mounting locations at all.

also a security box could be welded in or bolted w/ the lock cylinder from the car. so you'd need your car keys to unlock the unlocker

I like all clean look but I'm leaving the keyhole alone on driver side only for just a case of battery dead. This trunk lid will shaved someday.

Or ask tow service/AAA guy to unlocked for you lol
