Also, what about the Blue Painter's tape? Will that work, or will it bleed?

Where can I get SEM clear? Cuz I have the Rustoleum and Fusion already.

Great write-up. I've gotta re-do mine, they're turning red again.

That's exactly what I want Flip!!! But did you use high end clear and paint? I know you have that readily available to you. Do you think mine will be ok with the supplies that were listed origianlly?

Ok, mine are not doing well. I must be painting wrong or something, but the clear is not coming through very clear and almost feels like it's "dusty". After I resand and reclear I'll see if they do any better, but as of now, I'm getting frustrated.

I knew I wouldn't be near the quality of Flip's, but I'm not even close to 1/4 as good as his.

I've made sure to keep the can 10-12" from the tails when spraying. I'm only applying light coats to prevent running. I waited 30 mins between black coats to paint (3 even coats) and I waited an hour to clear them (I'm on my second coat, but I think I may have to resand because of the shit quality). I've sanded them down to fix the imperfections and that went OK. My black alone came out nowhere near as shiny as Flip's too.

Anyone have any ideas? This is aggravating...

They got better, but still not completely smooth. I'm gonna have to resand and reclear cuz I got a few imperfections like a couple small dust & debris. I think that the problem was the heat in my garage, it was about 85* outside a yesterday so my garage was about 100* prolly. Because as it got cooler, it went on better.

Man that's some frustrating shit!

Yeah, I may just order tails from you and send the ones I did to you to fix... :( . I think I did a good job taping them off, the lines are pretty clean and everything, the paint just didn't want to cooperate.

what i like is instead of blk paint i would rather have the body coloured used. 42U shodow grey. like you do with AVS covers. the painted way to customize the tails looks more factoty..... and to body colour match paint them it too would look factory .

.my questions are your 1st 2 pictures you show after you removed the tape etc. notice how dull the red lence remaining looks. that pretty close to what mine look.

i am pretty anal about glass or plastic lences being dull or very fine scratches. so will i be able to get that poilshed to new by someone who knows how to do this type of thing. or will i need to buy new tails first.

next being anal i would perfer to have the painted lines to be perfectly straight. not that i am say these and others aren't . can't really tell photo's of paint job not real close. IF you have clearcoat the complete outside of the tails . how well will that stay on and not peel or fade or turn yellow etc etc

Looks like I'm gonna have to photoshop my car and see what it would look like with them painted white, lol! I wonder if I could even color match though with a spray can.

The AVS painted white looks like s**t... Actually painted white looks hot!

So this looks bad in your opinion?

Yeah in my opinion... I'd prefer it masked and then painted... It makes it a cleaner look... JMO to each his own... but I do like your led work, especially on the door handles

These are my 'dummy' tails. They arrived broken so I'm using them in case I mess up, I'll know what NOT to do with my new ones
