Alright Well If your here there is a fair chance you have had some problems with your GM Grand prix, impala, Silverado, etc key fob. But wait STOP don't send it back or contact GM just yet why pay the ridiculous fee for a new one when you could fix the buttons that don't work on you current one?
Step 1:
Your going to need:
Super glue
a knife or something to pry the fob apart
some tooth picks and mixing bowl
Tweezers
aluminum foil
scissors
Image

Step2:
The first thing you need to do is pry the fob appart like so.
Image

Step3:
Pull the fob apart into its different pieces.

Step4:
See what you have, more then likely your fob looks something like this inside. The Problem here is those little black circles used to have a metallic layer over them that has now worn off so they no longer can make a circuit on the circuit board and so you buttons don't work.
Image

Step5:
Take your scissors and your foil and cut small pieces that fit on the pads like so and test fit them.
Image
I chose to not do the panic button because 1. it never gets used on purpose so it hasnt lost its metallic coating. 2. I would rather it not work all together to be honest especially after i was droping a girl friend off late at night once and i guess i hit it and the car decided to go off at 12 at night....

Step6:
Glue the pads down using super glue directly on the pads, make sure you use a fair amount, atleast enough to cover the pad, more is better then less here.
Image

Step7:
Reassemble your fob and enjoy.

Keep in mind I by no means grantee this to fix the fob, I just know it tends to work. It also is not necessarily a permanent fix i usually have to redo this process from time to time.

Not bad. My dad has same remote (Pontiac G6) like your. Both remote have same problem. Battery metal clip thing keep falling out. Lucky my ex work electric stuff so she put some melt metal thing to hold the battery metal clip down for me as free. He doesn't have a black circle problem yet.

perhaps, what you need is a conductive metal on the back of those buttons that isn't going to fall on the contacts on the circuit board. I have had good luck with the foil but if you have something else in mind you could try it.

My solder points broke on my battery holder. I went ahead and cleaned the buttons' contacts off with alcohol (the button itself AND the contact points on the circuit board) and no problem there, but on mine, the solder points were what was broken. They are definitely a weak point. I tend to drop my keys from time to time, usually at some point I drop them from high enough that the solder points break again and I have to do it over again. Just an FYI if the foil thing doesn't end up working for you, may be the solder points to the battery holder. ;)

Just followed this foil method and it worked great. Formed some around the button into the grooves and hobby glued a seal around the foil leaving the center raw for the contact. Also went 4-ply on the foil to stiffen up the feel and I'm happy for now.

Thanks Speedball

Great job. Gonna have to try this with the spare to my dads silverado. I drive it everyday and its a pain manually unlocking the door especially with a baby in your arms.
