just did all the lights, including sigs, fogs and clearance lights on my 07 Freightliner. This trick works quite well on taillights too.

Thanks a lot for the writeup I cant wait to try this tomorrow night! I tryed one of the restore kits and followed the directions to a damn tee. I got no results out of it at all... I will let ya know how it turns out. I do not have a buffer so I might try to do it by hand but if not ill just get one of those things that connects to the drill like you said.

Is anyone interested in providing this service?

My headlights aren't as "bad" as the thread starter's but they do need some help/work.

Not sure I'd sand without some sort of flexible foam or something similar between your hand and the paper... could end up with high / low spots from your fingers

Thanks FLIP.

I'm waiting on something else before I decide on getting them restored.

It's good to hear that you offer the service.

I joined this site because I found this thread.

Here's my '05 Comp G with this process.

Process and Before/After sidebyside

I did 400, 800, 1000, 1500, and then 2000 grit wet sanding.

Then I used Prima Cut with a cutting pad. Then 3M Rubbing compound with a lighter pad. Then a coat of the urethane. Then a light 2000 grit wet sand 4 hours later, followed by another coat of clear.

WOW, that turned out awesome! I pretty much gave up and got new lights because it thought my lights were so far gone they couldn't be saved, but if they turned out anything like yours i wouldn't of had to!! Welcome to the site by the way!

Can anyone give me an update how the Helsman spar urethane has been holding up as a coating since you did this? This was my only concern. I plan to do this soon as I have headlights that are begging for this restoration. The pictures look great; awesome writeup!

I do the 50 50 mix of urathane and mineral spirits and in past attempts it seems to last 4 or 5 months before it starts fogging again then you just do it all over again.

Thanks for the write up, my lights look much nicer and this is a much cheaper alternative than replacement. My lenses look 99% brand new.

Just curious if anyone knows. I'm doing this on my brothers avenger and all he could pick up was clear gloss poly urethane. Will that work just as well as spar urethane?
