im confused on the write up...so you replace the springs in the accumulator for 1-2 and 2-3? and what do you need the 4 spacers for then? im lost the accumulator part of the write up is very vague....so you put two spacers on each rod then? and replace the springs...it neeeds more detail ftw...help me out guys....

just the 1-2 for a firmer shift with a 2-3 spring

you use the spacers again to make it a firmer shift

2 spacers each rod

you'll have to ask someone who has done this before, i haven't owned a gp in over a year now

Ok, I changed my fluid a while ago and everything was fine for about 6 months. Now my pan gasket is leaking. So Im going to take it off, change the fluid and filter again. Only this time I AM doing the kit. I do have some questions though. I know that I need 4 spacers and each rod gets two spacers. BUT which rod gets which spacers? And as far as the spring, what you are doing is replacing the stock 1-2 spring with a stock 2-3 spring, right? So that each rod has a 2-3 spring, right? Also, if thats right, wouldnt it kinda be smart to replace the old 2-3 spring with a new one? That way EACH rod has a new 2-3 spring. For 4 or 5 bucks, why not just replace it?

the longer ones go on the bottom and the shorter ones between the springs or to sum it up one on each.

And as far as the spring, what you are doing is replacing the stock 1-2 spring with a stock 2-3 spring, right?
you'll get a firmer slightly longer shift from 1st to 2nd.

So that each rod has a 2-3 spring, right?
yupp

Also, if thats right, wouldnt it kinda be smart to replace the old 2-3 spring with a new one? That way EACH rod has a new 2-3 spring. For 4 or 5 bucks, why not just replace it?
you could but you don't have to.

NOTE:
i can't go into any more detail. i 1) dont own a w-body 2)need to wait on a friend that wants / needs to do it to get more pics 3) the longer i wait the more likely i'll forget something

So a couple posts up z3ro said that replacing the 1-2 spring with the 2-3 will make the 1-2 shift longer. Wouldn't you want the shifts to be shorter? So would you guys recommend replacing the 1-2 spring with the 2-3 spring or should I just keep the springs how they are?

Just saw this post for the first time and im interested in doing this. You say that this does the same thing as a PCM, what if I have an after market PCM already? Is it worth it to do this?

Random questions: if I changed my fluid like 5k ago, can I reuse it if I do this, or should I change it out even this early? Also, has anyone ever tapped the 4t60 pan for a drain plug and have pics thereof?

i would replace the fluid
and you can add the drain plug.
a few ppl i was talking to mentioned that if gm put drain plugs on the car the tranny would never need to be serviced

bought the spacers last night, headed to some local stores to find the springs. Good write up.

Just ordered the spacers. Going to stealership to order the $11 spring 7 pick up 2 gals of Dex VI @ $30/ea. With shipping costs, ZZP's price for Dex VI would come out the same.

I hope to get this done this weekend or next Thursday. I drain the trans yearly on every car I've owned...regardless of miles. I usually average about 20K anyways.

Thanks for the write up.

**EDIT**: Ok, after this exact install there is no difference at all. Yes, shifts feel a tad bit crisper and that is probably due to the fresh fluid. I've come to realize that the addition of and extra spring (2 in most kits that I've seen) under the piston is needed to feel any significant change. I'm willing to group the pan again but I just have no clue as to which springs are the ones needed to add under the piston.

Just did this tonight. Made a decent difference. Although I should have used the bigger spacers. Was worth the $40 and 2hrs.
