i threw my screen out a few years back, think i should get a new one ?? throttle body is clean..

just to add, you should keep your screen in. I was told that I didnt need a TB screen, so i took it out. With my scangauge, i noticed my LTFT were at +10 when they normall were at +1 or +2 at highway driving. Once i put the screen back in they went back to normal. If you don't have a tb screen, i would have a scanner check your car while your driving to see where you fuel trims are at cuz mine were very lean w/o the screen in.

and just a regular carborater cleaner (<<< yes, i spelled it wrong) will work fine. ive cleaned 2 throttle bodies with it. its all the same stuff honestly

So, I did this. Worked like a charm for the starting issue...but one thing concerns me. The blackness doesn't stop at the TB. How do I get in there and clean even more. Seafoam? Will that get to everything? Should I take the plenum off and clean that way?

don't know about the Seafoam, I just used a rag soaked in TB cleaner and cleaned as far as i could. I suppose you could use an old toothbrush soaked with TB cleaner to go even farther into the intake.

I did the same, soaked a rag and cleaned as far in as my hands would let me.

I've been doing this every fall/spring and it still gets very dirty inside there. I think it might be from the K&N filter. I don't reoil it ever because I think it does more harm than good. It sure does wake the car up though!

is there a way to lubricate the throttle body? I think mine is sticking a little cause when I rev the engine to 3000 rpm it takes 5 or 6 seconds for it to come back down. if yes what do I use. Please be specific.
Thanks

Great write-up. Easy to follow. Great pictures. Mine was so filthy. I like others can notice a difference as well.

Just a warning, this is tricky on pregens because of coolant lines going thru the throttle body. I just popped off my upper intake (cuz I had to change a fuel injector) and found that that made things a heckuva lot easier. Made a MASSIVE difference to my car. Feels brand new!

I would like to do this.....but have one question....

I bought my car in Oct -03 and I think the manufacture date was sometime in the spring of 03. What consitutes a pre-gen??

Hey there,

Not sure what you mean by same BS? can you clarify?

I verified that mine was built in April 2003. Is this considered a pregen?

Thanks

I did it and my start up problem went out the window! But i didn't take my time and didn't look nearly as good as yours! but i didn't have time to do inside the intake so when I do it again i'll be sure to do it and yeah the K&N oil is murder on the TB and MAF apparently.

Remember you need to let it dry up before installing it back on. I haven't had any problems what so ever with it.

I did this today on my 98 GP GTP. Took a hell of a long time cause I needed a new gasket so I had to go buy one. Came back and as I was putting everything back I lost a nut and then had to go to a store once again.

I had taken it to a mechanic to do this for me about 1 1/2 years back but apparently he didn't clean it at all and I never got the two bottles back either. I know there was left over. Well, my mom nor I take our cars to him anymore cause he did some other sneaky stuff. It feels good to do it yourself, you're guaranteed to get what you put in and you learn new things.

This guide along with a youtube video helped me out tremendously, thanks!
