Well it is getting colder in Iowa so I thought I would bring it up. What is best way to wash car in winter? Don't have a garage, plus washing car in garage just doesn't sound right lol.

$3 automatic wash? I used to pour buckets of hot water on the car in winter. That was not a good idea, don't do that.

Easier to keep it somewhat clean than let it go to hell and bring it back :P..

Do you have any of those self serve places? They're usually like 1$ for a time session, sometimes they'll have special days where it's like .50c

The winter is the only time I take it through a car wash. Sometimes I will hit up those spray places and blast it down, but usually all that happens is I freeze my ass off and the car is still filthy.

This is the only time of year (Like Andy) that I run my vehicles through the car wash BUUUUUUUT, I never take the GTP through it, I don't feel like correcting the mess car washes cause to your paint. However, the Dakota gets a "bath" in one quite frequently since we use salt so heavily in VA

Do you have a car wash stall that you pay by the minutes? Those are the best bet, imo.

For winter washing I would simply suggest a automatic touchless car wash. They will simply spray your car down and most of them have a blow dryer to get most of the water off. Now your car will not look its greatest but its your best bet for winter for cheap. If you do feel the need for a deep clean then go to a coin wash and use a brush BUT NOT ANY BRUSH. look around at different ones and find one that uses a boars hair brush. I know this may sound like its rough but boars hair brush is the softest you can use on your car to minimize your chances of damaging your paint.

Just anything to get that salt off. Touchless spray washes will save your car from the cancer. Don't forget to spray the underneath really well too. Last thing you want is cancer under your rocker panels/pinch welds.

Warm water on the body and hot water on the underbody any day it's above 20ish* for me. Just keep the salt off.

You know what DP, I hate you. Just kidding lol, I really wish I could store it for the winter. I may keep it at my parents in garage and just man up and wait for the bus at school to take me everywhere, or walk. It will however have to see some time on the roads, but I guess less time the better. I've also thought about getting a car cover and using that for the times that it has to sit outside, any advice?

Car covers are nasty things for paint. Even the ones that have a soft inside...the wind will move it around on the paint and dull the clear. A garage is the ONLY way to go.

Man I must be lucky. Around here none of those touchless car washes are closed and I'm pretty sure that my cars would be big rust heps by now if they were closed during the winter.

I used to work at a touchless car wash and if they weren't open all year they would go under. For the 18 months I worked there the place brought in more cash during the winter months than the summer. They'd be stupid to close during the winter. When I worked there I had my old 2000 GP and when I got rid of her in 07 with 85K on her and the underbody was still 100% rust free, and it had no undercoating or rust proofing whats so ever.

Ha, mine is silver on a good day and currently she is a weird silver/white/brown mix.
