I cleaned my windshield the other day with windex and thought it looked ok. Then I happened to look closer and noticed that I could still see where the wipers wipe at. Where they touch the windshield it was clear and clean. Right above there path it was kinda hazy looking, still clear just hazy. So I tried the windex again, same result. Any ideas?

cklaybar the outside.

im not joking.

then crumple some newspaper and use stoner invisable glass on the inside. you'll think your windsheild is missing afterwards.

Go to a local supermarket and pick up BONAMI. sprinkle on the winshield and add water to make it like a paste.
Works like a charm.

There used to be some stuff like that Bonami. I think it was called bar keepers friend? Or something like that? Never used it, but heard it was pretty good too.

Well, as it turns out, my wife had some of the bar keepers friend stuff! So I went on the web site and found this:
Sam Memmolo and Dave Bowman, Co-hosts of the Crank & Chrome television show on TNN, "...are serious dude when it comes to wanting a clean windshield. First, they clean off all the grime and road film using a cleaner called Bar Keepers Friend, a non-scratching polishing compound. Using plenty of water, wipe it on the windshield in a circular motion with a pad or sponge - then wipe it off. This lifts off a ton of grit. Then they mix some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with vinegar then rub it on the windshield with a folded paper towel. This will clean off any fingerprints or water spots. It also does a great job of cleaning the inside of the windshield too without leaving any streaks. Lastly, Sam and Dave then "treat" the cleaned windshield with Rain-X. In states prone to pouring rain outbursts, Rain-X makes the water virtually blow off the windshield - offering a very clear view.

So I will try it out today and let you know how it turns out. I wonder how it would work on the headlights?

Another good thing for your windshield will be good wipers. I've gone through every wiper you could possibly think of. Ones $3 to $30 and the best I've found are Jamak Triple Edge wipers. They work EXCELLENT, they are made of silicon, which lasts a helluva lot longer. AND they deposit silicone on your windshield and water beads up like crazy, making it all go bye-bye when your wipers are in attack mode. In order to "deposit" the silicone on the windsheild tho you have to do a "dry run" after you install them, which just entails you turn your wipers on and let them go 3-4 times.

Well, I used the bar keepers friend on the windshield. Seemed to work pretty good. Nice clear glass and real smooth to the touch too. I also tried it on the headlights, mixed results on that. They feel alot better now, no more litle pits and rough spots. But, it did scratch them very slightly. Kinda gives them a hazy look . Now again, this is a very slight haze. If I didnt see them before I probally wouldnt notice the haze at all. And it does not affect the patern of the lights at all.

I have to agree with a couple people above me, so I'm going to condense what they said and reiterate it.

First claybar the windshield, if that doesn't do the job, go with the zaino glass polish. I've seen it do wonders on windshields, but it is a very abrasive polish, so keep it farrr away from your paint!! After that, u should be golden. Put a coat of zaino Z5 on the windshield. Keep it clean by using Stoners with newspaper.

Your first mistake.... Windex. The stuff really is crap. Stoner makes a great glass cleaner and you can usually find it at most auto parts stores.

bar keepers friend is a bleach based polish  used it many times at work.

I will be trying the Bar Keepers stuff soon.
I saw wipers mentioned too. RainX Latitude's
are the best I've used. I have them on all my cars
and my work truck.

Is that Spray Away Glass Cleaner the stuff that kinda foams as you spray it on? If so, I really like it but can't readily find it around here.

I clay bar the windshield, hit it with Stoners (now with a rain-repelant variety!) and a microfiber, and follow up with a nice treatment of Rain-X.

After a lot of interstate driving, I get quite a bit of oil, road grime, and who knows what other fluids sprayed up on my windshield when driving in the rain...It seems to all build up on the windshield and even with Rain-X on, the wipers (Bosch Icons) chatter. This is when I hit it with some denatured alcohol on a paper towel and then reapply the Rain-X. Works great!!

What about tinted windows? Should you use newspaper on those as well or would a microfiber be better? I'd think the tint might absorb a little of the ink as it's more porous than glass.

Off to Home Depot tomorrow! And I'd use the microfiber on window tint...I'm not sure but I'd think that newspaper might be a bit more abrasive on the tinting - just a thought.
