just a question, why do you use soapy water and detail spray to keep it wet? Ive used clay for the past 5-6 years and never used water, always just detail spray. might be using it wrong, which is why im asking. i never had an issue with clay in one hand and spary in the other just keeping it wet.

He used soapy water just for additional lubrication. I personally just use spray detailer, but I go crazy heavy with it to keep everything very wet, but that can get expensive after a while  Which reminds me, I need to clay and wax my car.

if you use a dish soap it also helps in getting any old wax off so you get down to bare paint.

Dawn and/or Orange Degreaser cleaner work wonders and save you a lot of headache. I don't use any clay lub when claying the GTP. I just use the water itself, makes it easier and more financially appealing.

I thought that was a BIG no-no to do for a car.

You don't want to do it all the time or else it will dry out the rubber trim pieces. It is fine to do it once or twice a year when you are doing a full strip clay and polish detail
