Hey there!

I bumped ito a concrete pillar a few weeks ago and did some slight cosmetic damage to the rear facia. I did not do a proper job in trying to fix the issue, but just wanted to patch it up until such time where I could do a more thorough job. So I got some Galaxy Silver paint from the dealership and wanted to just paint over the damaged area, but I got a little carried away.....

I thought I could use some polishing compound to blend this together (see pic) but I think I put on a tad too much paint. Is there anyway I can make this less noticeable and blend the paint together?

Any help would be appreciated!

Emm what i would try is to get a buffer and compound I perfer meguiers 105/205 combo and that would help if that doesn't work it may require wetsanding which I personally would not attempt myself but a pro would.

I second this. M105/205 with an orange pad should knock out most of it.

This is what it did to my Dakota after I backed into our ATV :P

hey there,

Did you also use a buffer? or did you do that by hand? I do not have a buffer and not even sure how much that would cost.

How much do you all think a body shop would charge to fix this?

Thanks!

Mike,

I did use a Portal Cable Buffer 7424xp. It's the best investment I've ever well... invested in. This is the cheapest combo (on autogeek) that you can get, it gives you basically a booster start: http://autogeek.net/poca74pofcop.html

If you're big into keeping your vehicle clean, then I'd invest in this as well as Meguiar's M105/205 to correct any damage to the paint (swirls mostly). If there are deep bites into the bumper, the buffer won't take it out. The damage to my Dakota I could catch my fingernail on a few of them, which meant damaged beyond repair. The damage on my Dakota looks similiar to yours and you saw the difference.

A body shop would probably charge along the lines of $75ish maybe? It's a small spot, but they'll have to blend. It all varies on the company. I had an appraisal for $900 for my truck's entire left side to be painted, while another appraised it for $1.8k. It just depends. If you want a body shop to do it, find the cheapest appraisal... then go to the one that offered the most and see if they'll match it. That's what I did with my Dakota the first time :D

They most likely quoted so different cause they were going to skip or leave steps out...

OP:
I'd either pay someone or invest in a buffer and some compounds and do it, it'll take quite a bit of work to hide that by hand.
