Okay I have a 2007 Grand Prix GT SE that I'm getting the Aux adapter for today.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_469GM12AX2 ... ml?tp=1672

Now I just wanted to have some kind of system where I can play through my ipod or something where I could have a library of songs in my radio rather than 6 cds with only 20 or so songs on each. (CDs do get expensive).

Now I'm wondering about some subs and an amp. My car has the 10 speakers inside of it already with the monsoon system but the bass isn't kicking.

I can get cost on anything at Visions so I'm going to be shopping there.

I was thinking the easy way out for subs

http://www2.visions.ca/Catalogue/Catego ... uctId=6139

and for an amp I have no idea. If anyone could help me out that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Edmonton Alberta. I'd rather get new subs at cost, thanks though. Care to share how you setup your subs?

Never had them in the grand prix sorry. They were in my last car. Pretty simple. Aux plugs and power plug in the back of the radio power straight from the battery. I'm not sure what our stock headunit can put out if its enough for subs plus the monsoon system. Good luck. Don't vibrate your spoiler off.

Those will work fine for what you want, Had the same set in my car once for testing purposes with a Crossfire 1000 watt and with that enclosure they sounded great.

- Just curious as I have been seeing this a lot lately - Why purchase a AUX adapter instead of upgrading the factory head unit? Granted it may cost more but you do get more options including AUX, along with better sound and function.

I got the same aux adapter and I have the same stereo pretty much in my 2004 GP.

I used a Line Output Converter to get RCA plugs for my amp.
Just tapped into the feed for my rear 6x9s so that it gets the right low notes, since I am pretty sure the stock amp has a crossover in it.
I went direct to the terminals on the speakers to make sure I wasn't getting the tweeter feed since there are 4 wires on the plug.

For an amp, this one seems like a decent match...
It's got the right amount of power. Then just wire the subs in series since it looks like they are 2 ohm each and you should be bumpin.

I got the Aux and cable for only 40 bucks. That's all I really wanted and don't really need the functionality all that much. Why get rid of it when it works fine? I know I'll need to do some adjusting but I don't need, usb, nav, dvd, etc. Also if I was to get a head unit I want it to be as clean as possible so a double din would be needed and those go up 10 fold for what I got the Aux jack for. It works great btw!

Could you explain that a little bit easier for me John? I'm pretty new to the Audio world and have no idea haha I'll probably get an installer to do it since it'll be pretty much nill on the cost.

I'm guessing you got the Aux installed fine since you said it works great.

A Line Output Converter (LOC) will have terminals to connect 4 wires to
(2 for each channel, 1 positive 1 negative) which you should connect to your rear speakers.
I soldered directly to the terminals for the best connection but you can also get these wire taps at radio shack if you want to do it yourself.
Then the LOC will have two RCA plugs that will connect right up to your amp.
From there all you need is to wire your subs and power.

An amp kit is probably the easiest way to get the wire and all connectors you will need.
I Ran the power from the battery along the passenger side of the car under the plastic things at the bottom of the door openings, and connected the ground wire to some metal in the trunk. Just make sure you sand around it to get a clean metal to metal contact.
4 gauge should be enough for your amp, and then wire your sub box to the amp you choose.

SEE THE THING ABOUT AUX CABLE ITS CHEAPER THEN BUYING A DECK WITH A IPOD CONTROL INTERFACE BUT WITH THE AUX CABLE YOU WILL HAVE STATIC AND NOT SO GOOD SQ, BUT ALTOGETHER CD'S ARE STILL THE BEST WAY TOGO FOR SQ

I haven't noticed any sound quality difference between CD and my AUX input quality, and I just bought a cheap one from wal mart. And to do an aftermarket deck and keep my door chimes requires a 100 dollar adaptor, so $20 for AUX input and $20 for a Line Output Converter sounded like a better plan for what I was looking for, which was a clean look and mean sound.

First of all caps will never get your point across better. If you'd like I could take a video of how good the audio itself is because there is no static no nothing. It's clear as a bell and charges my ipod, two things I needed. I spent way less money than buying a new deck and like I said, why waste money when something works just fine?

Thank you so much for this write up!

Question is how do I access my rear deck speaker wiring. I'm planning on doing this soon as well.

You should be able to see your rear speakers in the "ceiling" of your trunk. The back of the speaker is exposed in my 2004, but I guess other years could be different.

Alright great! Could I do this myself do you think and are you certain that the adapter will work for my car? I was thinking about going to visions and getting it installed but they quoted me some stupid adapter that was going to cost 400$ and I was think hmmm, no thank you. Remember I have a monsoon system as well and I'm kind of debating if it's enough bass for now until next summer!
