Hello, I am wondering which option would be better for replacing a blown 6x9 in a monsoon stereo. I have a jvc kd-r 710 receiver hooked up to the factory monsoon amp and speakers currently. It sounds decent faded to the front now.

Would I be better off trying to find a stock replacement speaker or should I bypass the monsoon amp and run an aftermarket set of 6x9's powered off of the jvc deck? What other vehicles come with the same monsoon 6x9 4 wire setup as my '04 grand prix so I can price used ones? I am looking for decent sound quality without spending too much on it at the moment. Eventually I would like to upgrade to an aftermarket amp and speakers.

I ended up using a set of jvc speakers i had and bypassed the amp. Sounds alright. You have to fade it more to the rear setup this way though.

Why would you bypass the amp? It's there for a reason.... (What little it does..)

The factory speakers use a 4 wire connection to the 6x9s. The aftermarket speakers do not support this so to get the full range of sound from the speakers, it is easiest to bypass the car's amp and run off the the head unit's power. Otherwise it won't sound as good.

That's because the factory amp has an internal crossover. Mid/tweet Maybe you should get a component set :)

or just make your own connectors since most 6x9's now have mids and highs sitting on the cone

If you would like to eventually amp them why not just save some money and do it now?

I don't understand how buying an amp now would save me money? I hooked up a set of 6x9s that I already had to the head unit I had. I only spent 10 bucks for good speaker wire.
