I think my left front door speaker is going out and I'd like a simple/easy replacement speaker--I'd probably go with OEM if I could find the part number (and the part itself---everything I find is just for the "basic" GP ones and not the monsoon 9-speaker-system ones). I see the Infinity 60x0 series mentioned often for Monsoon door speakers---are they a drop-in replacement? (as in, don't have to dremel anything in the doors)

I do not really want to "upgrade" the sound system, just get it working again---but going to aftermarket speakers may be a worthwhile upgrade, especially considering the unavailability/price of the OEM speakers. Any tips/info appreciated.

aftermarket speakers are about the same price as OEM. only difference is you need to buttconnect the wires instead of using the connectors. its really easy to do. just make sure you have the right size. if you need help let me know. i try to check back every day. good luck

A concern I have is that it seems the Monsoon speakers have a fairly rare ohm rating (2?) compared to most, and that a crossover needs to be added when using non-OEM speakers because of that. Any info/experience with that aspect?

I just pulled the center speaker out of the dash on my 07' GXP with the Monsoon system and that speaker is 4 ohm. I can't see the rest of the speakers being 2 ohm

Because the rest of the speakers are paired off. The center speaker is by itself. They split the signal for the door speaker/rear deck at the
speaker itself, not at the amp. So there for two 4 ohm speakers would give you 2 ohm. But a crossover isnt needed because of that. Most people run crossovers when they buy component sets.

Well, my speakers have been going in and out much more frequently this week, so I definitely need some replacements soon.

I'd rather do more wiring than carving/sanding, so "fitting into the existing holes/mounts" is the #1 priority, and that is the hardest thing to research it seems.

Well if thats the case Dave, then youll want to get some coaxial speakers. That way you wont have to cut out the factory tweeter in the door panel. But check out this place. Hes got 2 ohm JBL speakers. But from what I see a lot of guys run the CDT speakers. Im sure he will be able to steer you in the direction you want to go.

But since you say speakers, is it more than one now? Also is it cutting all sound out or just the lows and you can still hear the tweeters?

I've read that when one speaker cuts out, the monsoon system cuts the power to the match on the other side---so it's actually hard to tell which is actually the problem. But basically I get sudden "holes" in the soundstage on one side or the other usually until I shut down the car and restart it again. From the sound, I'm basically "presuming" it's the total loss of a door woofer.

It could just as easily be a loose wire, and not a failing speaker. But from experience "taking apart GP doors" I don't want to have to do it too many times---if I'm ripping apart the doors and fiddling with the wiring, then I'm going to replace the speakers while I'm in there.

PS---since it only seems to affect the door woofers (and possibly on both sides), is there any chance it's a bad connection at the head unit?
