So i laid out my install plans and like i told you guys i had my head unit on the way with the install kit and the retention wire so they all came today and the install was on the way....... CHECK IT OUT

For double din you will need this

For the retention wire you will need this

This is used to relocate the factory radio and to retain factory chime and memory stored in the stock HU, also keeps you from cutting the factory wiring harness.

How much was that Retention kit? And will that also retain the use of all the functions?? (onstar, xm, steering wheel controls)

as for as retaining those features you would have to read the ad they offer cause i dont have those features to know if it was retained but it was 60 bucks

Ok so i did a little bit of research and relocating the factory deck does retain onstar and the chimes.

looks good I need a start up screen like that but I have a Pioneer. Lol. 04+ are made for double dins used to have a basic alpine cd player and took it out after 4 days couldn't stand the space.

Looks good. Where'd you get the cable from exactly? It would be nice to retain the ability to easily reset the tire pressure and oil level lights easily as well as program key fobs in my Monte Carlo (you do all that via the factory radio and not have to use a Tech II in the 00-05 Monte Carlos and Impalas)

Question, Where did you get that Retention Wire from? I found one when i got my HU but it was crappy...when it was hooked up, there was a lot of distortion when the volume was turned past half. The problem was in the wiring b/c w/o the front speakers wired up, it worked.

no you need a separate harness to retain controls.


@tremayne did u need any other harnesses other than the relocation harness to make it work
