Yeah...I've run Infinity speakers for the longest time, and they are excellent.

Infinity speakers sound ok.. different lines of them anyway. That Kappa's that I've heard, IMO sounded like garbage. sca555 is right, listen to some Focals and you'll shit yourself, but you cannot compare Focals to Kappas... That like saying, hey.. Lets look at your Audiobahn subwoofer, and compare it to my DD subwoofer...

MB Quarts FTW. I run them in my doors off way too much power, and other than having to replace a crossover cap that exploded, I've had no complaints from them. Sound great and get very loud with power.

If you can get the coin, I've heard Hertz is supposed to be ridiculously good sounding.

I'm still debating my next mids/highs setup. I want to get loud, but I don't want to sacrifice quality. I'm considering piecing together a setup using PA drivers.

I'm definitely with you on this!! :)

But preference is exactly that...for some reason most people LOVE a "U" shaped response. First thing people do when they buy a new vehicle and turn the radio on is figure out how to turn the "treble" and "bass" ALLLLL the way up!!

Anyways, there's ways of dealing with the brightness. Try pointing the tweeters DIRECTLY at your head. Screw the passengers ;P They typically can't tell the difference in quality anyways right?! :o You also want to make sure there is nothing within 6" of the tweeter up to a 30 degree radius. In addition, no sharp angles nearby either. Reflection and diffraction that takes place SO close to point of origin can make any tweeter sound "scream'ish". 6" of space should take care of frequencies as low as 2khz I think? And most tweeters these days are crossed around 3khz to 3.5khz.

If those tips don't work...find something different? Seas Prestige tweeters on madisound.com for $30 have been said to be somewhat "laid back".

Most people who think Kappas are bright also believe MBQ to be bright as well. Unless it's the old Q series built in Germany. Good luck finding those. Even so, lots of people swapped out the Q series tweeters as well.

I would suggest trying the HT25's from Audison/Hertz...the HT28's would be a better fit if you don't like "bright". Hertz are generally characterized as closer to neutral and somewhat laid back. Older a/d/s/ are considered "warm". But that was mostly due to the passive x-over. Run them active and they sound totally different. I've heard good things about Boston Acoustics. They tend to be very accurate. Some people have said a bit edgy depending on install. Anyways...install can make or break any speaker. I would buy the Seas and keep trying different install methods until your happy.

Here they are...the Fs on these is about 1200hz. So you could cross these ~2400hz @ 12db with good results. That will help you choose a mid that's a bit beefier in the bass department instead of sacrificing for mid-range.

Seas Prestige Textile

Here's some SB Acoustics that have gotten VERY good review too.

Get your feet wet with some ID Horns!! :D

Once you start figuring out how horn loaded speakers work...look out 130db mid-bass ;)

I would love to try some Image Dynamics, unfortunately I don't exactly have ID coin =P

I've been entertaining the prospect of piecing together my own component set with drivers from Parts Express but I keep putting it off because I have this uncanny feeling I'll muck it up my first time. Besides I'm not sure what style of tweeters I would want to get, all I know is I don't want titaniums, those hurt me in a bad way =/

Run the same components in the front and rear doors and sounds excellent, one thing to consider might be the 2 ohm load on the kenwood 4 channel amp, I used a Clarion 4 channel at first and couldn't get the sound I was looking for. Switched to a Sundown 100.4 and the sound was change dramatically.

But if you do want to get rid of them I will take them off your hands
