I am trying to install new rear speakers in my 2004 comp g. The stock speakers have a plug to them, do I need to buy some sort of adapter to get the new ones to plug in? or do I have to splice into the wires?I am no good in the electronic department. Thanks

You need to splice into it. Just use scissors to ONLY cut the outer rubber part and remove it to expose the wires. Connect the darker colored one to negative and brighter to positive. FYI rear speckers are 6x9.

Oh and just splicing into factory specker wires really sucks for sound quality. It's better to get an amp.

They make wire strippers you know. And work A LOT better than scissors. :???:

Since you are lacking in the electronics department, I would go to your local Best Buy and get yourself some adapters. It's $25 well spent. Splicing is for noobs :)

What sort of adapters would I get. I went to best buy and they said they dont have and dont use adapters for the speakers. He said the monsoon system has seperate tweeter wires that I would have to splice in with the regular positive and negative terminals??????

I am looking at it and it looks as if I can just put the spade connectors on the factory positive and negative wires and hook it up that way but my new speakers do not have a seperate wire for the tweeters like the factory does. Do i just leave those unhooked?? what a PITA, my other 04 was sooo much easier without the monsoon.

I'd rather spend the money on the wire stripper than the adapters IMHO. Adapters or not, it won't affect the quality of sound u get.

There is no crossover to separate the frequencies, so it doesn't really matter.

do attach the tweeter wires to the main positive and negative on the new speakers or only use the main two speaker wires???? I am going to solder the wires on the new speakers so I do not really have to splice.

Your stock speakers have two wires for the main speaker, and two wires for tweeters. Unless you get certain 6x9 spekears which allow this kind of connection, your either going to have to live with just hookin up to the low one which will give you the lower frequencies, or you will have to do some modifications to your speaker to wire the high side (higher frequencies) to the new speakrs tweeter, and the low side to the main speaker. Good luck!

I will just buy a cheap set of tweeters and hook up the high frequencies. I unhooked my amp and set the security so I have to reset that now. I am going to bypass my mosoon amp for the rear speakers, they do not sound loud at all for 6x9s. both rear speakers were crackling, so I think there may be an issue there.

-- Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:22 pm --

what a pita... the rear speakers still barely have any output to them. I get a very quiet low and high frequency just like before I replaced them, and I still have crackling out of random speakers. I am going to have to buy a whole new set up come tax return time. I am going to replace the head unit and speakers/ rewire all of the new speakers, and get rid of that monsoon amp for someting a little better. I have read a lot of other posts but what are some good speakers, double din headunit and amp??? I don't want subs or anything crazy, just something that sounds good.
