Anybody every tried to tint tails or other lights using vinyl from somewhere like rvinyl? Looks relatively easy to install, but the tails on 04+ GP's are curved much more than anything they show in the install videos.

it will be extremely hard to do
i did my off road lights w/ a heat gun and they didnt turn out pretty and those were mostly flat w/ a curve down

if you can get a professional near you to do the install it would work, but then again i like flip

I have a vinyl on my fogs and they had to be heated, it was a pain in the ass to do, so I just said f it and had it professionally done, much easier, if you're going for black, what's wrong with the spray? I could see if you're doin a different color vinyl may be you're only option, but if you're going black I would just suggest the the spray, easier to apply and remove

Get them professionally sprayed by someone like Flip or use

Don't mess with films for something with that many curves and shapes.

Only reason I ask is because I just bought some LED tails so I was looking at alternatives to FLIP. Not that I don't love his work, he's done my tail lights and 3rd brake light and reverse bar, but I'm trying to save some monies. And with things like VHT or Rustoleum's new stuff, there's always a huge chance I will screw it up. But I guess it's worth a try at $12 a can. Don't get me wrong, FLIP did a great job on my tail lights and reverse bar

Get the rustoleum over VHT. VHT is purple pigment and that will show after a while. Rustoleum is more black and easier to use IMO. It's really not hard to do as long as you take your time and prep the lights properly and hit them with clearcoat afterwards.

I hear the Rustoleum doesn't take a clear coat very well.

Mine did just fine. I sanded the tint with 800 before clearcoating it with Duplicolor's acrylic lacquer.

That would explain it. Everyone is complaining about Rustoleums clear coat. Got any pics of what you tinted with this stuff and how it turned out?

Yeah don't use their clear coat.

This is the only pic I have of my latest project. The clearcoat still needs smoothed out (you can see the texture in the light) but it still looks pretty good.

I did some friends stuff to but I didn't get pics of what they looked like when they were finished. They still look good to this day though unlike my GF's tails which I did with VHT and they now look purple if you get up close to them.

Love how forgiving this stuff is, just gotta get nice even coats or else your lines will show when light shines threw. Other than that with proper prep this stuff is great if your on a budget.

If you dont do this then the clear coat wont stick at all, so if youre doing them yourself make sure you sand that bitch
