Question!

Anyone had any issues with this?
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthr ... -in-55watt

THere was mention about issues with DDM kits, well, I wanted to run 55w DDM H1's in mine. If this is going to happen, I'm going to have to change things up.

What are you guys running for bulbs and ballasts?

Nope.

Like the suggestions in that thread, defective projector or bad HID Kit. I've been running 55w for about 9 months now and the output is still good.

Im runnin 55W up to 5 hrs at a time with my minis, no issues. I don't have the shrouds they com with tho, just the cheap ass plastic that comes with the projectors.

Ive been running 35w 8000k Litech H1s in my Morimotos for about 4 months now and they are fine.

My HID kit is a carry over from last year when I had my Gen 2 Spyders in my 98 GTP, so they are just over a year old, and I just replaced my first ballast...

I might splurge and go with an actual Morimoto HID kit from TRS over the winter for next summer. M also planning on getting a brand new set of headlights to retrofit next year. ;)

Anybody running DDM in their Mini's though? A couple people on that forum seem to think DDM's ballasts run the bulbs hotter and they WILL destroy the projectors. I'm hoping it's all BS but it's kinda making me nervous.

The nature of hid means that the running temp is much lower. Dave or one of the other guys please chime in, but I believe the running temp for hid is around 80f.

The morimotos are a glass lens and steel bracket, so there isn't any plastic to melt other than the shrouds.

In my experience, where there are problems is with those 55w fake bulbs (so called hid look), those run way hotter due to the type of gas inside them.

I melted 2 sets of driving lights in my 98 gtp last year before I got smart and went back to 35w.

I'll have to dig up the thread, but someone measured the brightness of a bulb with different ballasts on a test rig and found the DDM ballasts to be brighter noticeably. Said something about them possibly being higher wattage than 35 and 55w. Idk.

Don't forget the site is run by a store that is trying to sell morimoto products, phillips products, and higher end products. They will show you anything to stop you from buying the cheap stuff which is probably just as good or very similar to the products they sell.

True...
I guess if it acts up I'll just sucker up and get some FX-R's or something of the like.

Now the question is: 35w or 55w?

I would bet 35W would be more than enough... I run 55 but its almost too bright.
