Just wondering if anyone has tried this.

I find that the 912 incandescent bulb that is in the trunk just doesn't cut it.

I bought an LED light strip from eBay and tried to wire it into the trunk light.

The bulbs barely light up. I tried an LED 912 bulb as well and it flickered. Frustrated I took a voltage meter to the socket and found that it's only giving approx 11VDC. These LEDs are quite picky and want a consistent 12VDC to work at full brightness.

Does anyone know of a good clean 12VDC source to power the light strip, I will use the trunk light socket as a signal to turn on the LED, but I don't to go as far as adding a relay and running a line directly from the battery just to be able to see where stuff is in the trunk.

I am redoing my interior lighting as well as adding HID fogs. I will post pics of everything else once I'm done. I want to be able to post pics of the trunk as well so any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

photo for ya but i'd rather have a longer strip than the 12" one in there now

I have a red light strip as well. Looks good! Where did you draw the 12V from.

I'm gonna take tod1d's advice. HIDs for the trunk. I will be uber cool! Lol

But then I still need 12V to power them. Would an inline capacitor help to raise the voltage to 12V? (For LEDs no HIDs planned)

If you're only getting 11 volts to the trunk light you must have a bad ground, a low battery or a bad alternator. Check some other light sources and see how much voltage they are getting.

It would be cool to run a strip all along the inner rim where the lid closes. I plan on doing something like that once I finish changing all the bulbs in the interior of my car.

Looks good Alex. The lights in the grille are mounted on the light bar I made for him.
