This is just pure win!!!!!! Not only is the idea simply amazing, your writeup is actually extremely solid for anyone else that wants to do this.

if you still have the plastic from where you cut the dic, you could try and put it in that tiny gap at the bottom, or you could put carpet there too. Im a bit of a perfectionist so it would bug me even if the gap was tiny.

And how easy does it slide out? I would be worried about it sliding out on a hard left turn

I am so buying a new DIC/stereo trim peice and going to start looking at hooking this up too. It looks good man. And yeah great write up.

One small peice of advice, maybe with the trim put the gap where the ends meet along the back edge and not at the corner so it is hidden more and you can probably put the ends closer together for a bit of a cleaner look. It is sweet though.

i dont want to say its stiff but its just right i dont even have to run that test cause the carpet in the back hugs up on it making it a snuggly fit

Tremayne: Solid work man. This could be the start of a whole new trend... Great write up too... I like how you used Wallyworld trim for your slot, I would have done the same thing.... too bad its not long enough to go all the way arround... thats my only constructive critiscm... other wise this is epic. ;)

Keep us posted. ;)

Bravo!! Like Matt said easy to understand write up and demonstrates that it can be done on w/ a small budget,

-- Wed Nov 02, 2011 11:36 pm --

Random: I was actually listening to 2chainz mixtape when I read this thread.

Back on topic: A few ?'s/suggestions

Where did you mount the equalizer?
If you do..do some tweaking in future. Of Course do like the others suggested and line up the ipad w/ the ends meet. Another suggestion I have is if you have a spare cubby...you can hack it up and instead of having the area where the rail lie. Mount the rails on top of the hacked up cubby. It'll benefit you 3 ways. It'll fill the gap and it'll make it seem like one oem piece and with the cubby if the equalizer is small enough you can set it up in cubby. A bit confusing to understand probably but im suggestions this since I know somebody else is bound to do this now.

and I may if I get a chance attempt a set up like this but w/ a galaxy tab since I hate apple lol

Only way to describe it. Yes that is paint and no your the photoshop pro..something I have no idea how to use lol

I never had that little trim piece i wish i did it would make that look cleaner and as for the EQ i thought of that to and after measuring i know it wont fit there. lol trust me i made sure of it all but i see we think alike

I love the idea but to me the carpet seems a bit tacky. I would try crafting up some better ways to make it look OEM but to each his own. Good job and I really like the new idea.

The carpeting serve 2 purposes for me it looks good and also the ipad will slide in and out to much i dont want it rubbing wood or metal or plastic the carpet serve as protection.

Ive yet to go to Hieleah with the G8. Ive mostly been sticking to West Kendall and the FIU campus. Id be surprised if you'd seen another red G8 with rally stripes.

Im free on Friday afternoon if you wanta hang out. Maybe i can give u some out of the box thinking.

could do carpet on the back and stuff but the part infront of the rail that is actually visible when u have the ipad in could b done with fiberglass is the only change i would make

True. But to me the thing about glassing it is I world want it to be the same finish texture as the bezel and honestly I can't.
