I have a 2005 GP GT with automatic headlights. I am converting to HID and was wondering, I want to keep the automatic headlight option, do I need a time delay relay on the harness? If I do not use one I assume the life of the ballasts (using digital) and lamps will be shortened? Any ideas or comments appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

You should be fine with just a regular harness for HID. The automatic function will still work fine. I have been using the same bulbs and ballast for about over a year I think, and ballasts and bulbs still work like new.

I use a time delay relay on my HIDs. During startup the lights flicker, which is to be expected but I paid a lot of money for my Morimoto ballasts and bulbs and I don't want to risk anything. I needed a harness anyway.

Only issue you may or may not run into is alot of GM cars that have DRL lights will tend to try and turn on the HIDs during day time or dusk at a lower voltage then full on. This will cause one bulb to flicker on then off leaving you looking like a bulb is burned out till you thumb the switch to get them to turn on all the way.

You'll be fine w/ the regular harness. Hid ballast are rather inexpensive around $20 or so I would purchase a spare set and keep in your car just in case. i've been using my same ones for last 3 years w/o any issue. Like Jason said now that i'm retro fitted I use Morimoto ballast which are rather expensive like $70 so it becomes a big deal then.

My DRL's are the turn signals and everything I read states that this should not be an issue.

Thanks for the speedy replies everyone. This forum and it's members is the best for GP info.
